With the writer of the R&C Future series on board, the original voice cast for the main characters plus other big name stars, and what's looking so far to be Pixar-quality animation, this movie is looking to be amazing!

Now if only they'd give us an actual release date.

It'll be shown at Cannes so probably in July or it might have been delayed to next year around April along with the new game. Thread for the movie now that we have more info.

This is just what I needed after that new Sonic Boom announcement.

It does looks pretty.

The Pixelizer is funny, too.

Honestly looking at the gameplay video makes me sad because Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch ditched Jak and Sly.

I loved those three franchises

I wasn't really looking forward to this game until I saw those two trailers.

Now I'm hyped!

Man, that is looking good! Shame we'll have to wait almost a year to play it, but that's almost Pixar quality!

It's sort of amazing to think that Insomniac couldn't make a weapon like the Pixelator until this current generation of consoles, huh? That's just a hilarious level of irony right there.

The Blargian Snagglebeast has taken a level in badass, I see. I thought it was cool that old weapons like Mr Zurkon, the Groovitron and even the Predator Launcher have been brought back. I hope the Suck Cannon, Morph-o-Ray and Rift Inducer make it in.

I would complain about most of the returning weapons being from games that aren't the original (seriously, the only one from there that's been shown is the Pyrocitor), but as the movie (and thus, the new game) is more of a retelling than a straight up movie version of the first game, I think I can forgive the slights against the game canon.

Some quotes on that from the team:

"Ratchet and Clank is a new game that takes elements from the original," explains production director Shaun Mc Cabe. "What we imagined when we started was a curated first Ratchet experience."
"What we ended up with was a new game and what we think is a new beginning for Ratchet and Clank," says Mc Cabe.
"More than half of the weapons in this game were not in the Play Station 2 Ratchet and Clank," says Insomniac community lead James Stevenson. "They're either new weapons or weapons from the movie or weapons from the Future series."
"I don't think this invalidates anything that's happened in later Ratchet and Clank games," he says. "The rough outline is still the same. Ratchet meets Clank, and they go on this adventure, and Chairman Drek is still the bad guy. It just gives people a new entry point, and the film also acts as a new entry point for the series. They really complement each other. We're so focused on this part of it, but I'm not too worried about what happens next.

"There probably will always be more Ratchet adventures down the line."

The first game's weapons were really bad both in terms of what they did and how few there were. Pretty much none of them were useful in the second game if you rebought them there.

Into The Nexus had few weapons but at least they were all interesting.

So, this is not a full-on Continuity Reboot? Would any prospective future instalments still take place post-Into the Nexus?

I think they said that the framing device for the game is that Quark is recounting Ratchet and Clank's origin story. If this is true, there's a chance that this game could actually be in canon with the rest of the series.

[up]Pretty much

The game will also be told from the perspective of Captain Qwark, a dimwitted superhero idol of Ratchet's who bounces between helping the titular duo and (often inadvertently) sabotaging their best efforts. His point of view will often change events from the film, embellishing them to provide longer, more action-packed scenarios for our heroes to fight through.

[up][up]It's still a Continuity Reboot tho.

After actually seeing the game I don't even have a problem with it anymore. I was really worried this was gonna be like Sonic Boom was to Sonic, but thankfully those fears have been abated. Honestly rebooting the story for the movie makes sense, newbies are gonna pick up the game after seeing the movie, and the movie starts from the beginning so it works out well. Also, the first Ratchet and Clank was pretty mediocre even compared to the everything after (and including) the second one so this is sorta change to "do-over" things.

Also I remember that The Pixelator was a fan sumbission for a fan-gun contest for Crack In Time but Insomniac said that they couldn't do it on PS 3 due to hardware restrictions.

I do hope they bring back some of the iconic sequences from the first game.

The flooding sequence from Blackwater City and the Battleship self destruct escape come to mind.

They've got the Blargian Snagglebeast and hoverboards from the first game, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of those things got carried over too.

Maybe nobody had thought to make one until now? You could start making one if you like, the weapons of Ratchet and Clank are certainly memorable enough to justify it. One suggestion would be to ask a mod to check if it's OK first just in case, but you said Destiny's weapons have their own page, so I don't think it would be a problem.

That was kinda a bad trailer, the narrator got real annoying and was in the way.

They do seem to be adding elements and characters from 1, 3 and deadlocked though.
