Spring 2013 Anime

For those who've been following along, the new confirmations are these:

Aiura — Appears to be a standard School Girl Series

Suisei no Galgantia — Details are scarce, but it's being written by Urobuchi

Devil Survivor 2 — Probably better suited to an anime than the first game, even if I don't like it as much

Only stuff on the list I'm interested in are The Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat and season 2 of Oreimo. Of course, there'll probably be more soon enough.

Being a mecha fan is suffering.

There's one mecha series that I'd be quite surprised to see not come out in spring, and a few others that are likely to come out around the same time. Just nothing actually confirmed yet

[up][up] What, the Rebuild Of Evangelion films aren't enough? tongue

Although, I have a feeling that Magical Girl shows are gonna overtake the Mecha shows at this point thanks to a certain series.

One film I can't even see yet without subs doesn't make up for such a drought ._.

And thats just more reason for me to dislike/hate Madoka.

There hasn't exactly been a surge of Magical Girl series, though

Cute Girls + Military feels like the big thing right now.

In any case, I'm going to huddle in a corner and clutch my Gunpla and cry to sleep.

Come on, it is just the passage of the times we live in. While Mecha may have been supremely popular back then, it, like everything, goes through a lull. Heck, I am glad that the Magical Girl genre is making a comeback, since it was relatively unnoticed before Madoka revived it again.

And even if it hasn't inspired a whole bunch of MG shows, its influence in terms of art direction and tone have definitely influenced new anime. You are just gonna have to live with it.

Does anyone know what series from winter are likely to carry over?

Well at the very least Ore Imo 2 should be good.

I really don't know about Madoka creating an influx of magical girl. The things that made it good are basically all the ways it wasn't a typical magical girl show, and I think the producers are aware of that.

It's more like it's creating an influx of stuff written by Urobuchi. Though, of course, since he's just one guy, it's not like it's dominating the industry.

So we might see more Grimdark "Deconstructions?

Also what seasons are usually the best seasons for anime? It feels like Winter and Spring are low points.

They do deconstruct things, Thorn.

While Madoka might not be quite the Deconstruction it's made out to be, it does do this with both the Monster of the Week format and the Transformation Trinket if it were to ever get lost.

Time to work on my backlog in any case.

I wonder if Gyrozetter is worth a look...

I think people call Madoka a deconstruction because that has positive connotations, while Darker and Edgier, despite being accurate in this case, has negative connotations.

It's both. It does take a much darker tone, but it also analyses why one would want to become a Magical Girl, how it would affect their lives, the nature of true selflessness and heroes in general, and more.

Sort of like Spec Ops The Line.

Yeah, we get it, it's good story telling.

It's just that Spec Ops does have similarities to Madoka.

....So?

That works because it's basically an Interactive Anime, which fits this forum more.

Spec Ops The Line doesn't.
