I plan to upgrade mine, but my PC needs an upgrade anyway. It can barely run XCOM on minimal settings.
I really want it to get to 4 million, outer-space combat sounds really awesome.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenWell, the planned release date is in two years, so it's not like it's going to sneak up on you.
Not Three Laws compliant.Well, yeah, you're right there.
It's just that I tend to make sure that my computer stuff lasts for as long as possible, and I'd rather not upgrade my PC just for a single game (it doesn't help that mine's a slimline cased PC, so if I do upgrade it'll need to be the whole hog*).
Still, I'm excited as hell for this thing, even if my PC will be reduced to an overheated slagheap even if it ran it at the minimum requirements*.
Locking you up on radar since '09^ Hell, most of my hardware upgrades through the mid to late 90s were for running Wing Commander, so this would just be keeping in the spirit.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpWhat the heck are you running? Even an outdated PC from 2005 could run Terraria, and this game is only a slight increase in terms of processing and RAM. A comp from 2008 shouldn't have any problems at all, even if it was only middle-of-the-line.
You may be confusing this game with the Terraria In Space that's also been floating around on these forums.
Saw this, was really impressed. The wife thought it was cool, too.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.Yes! Reached 4 million! I was very excited for the expanded boarding options.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenBoarding sounds awesome. I like that it's skill based instead of luck like in X3. Worst part of that game was training marines. I cheated in fully specc'd marines after awhile because it was just ridiculous how much time it took to train em up.
It does sound like things are skewed towards defense though. Unless we can bring shiny toys of our own for the assault I'll probably just blow the enemy ships up.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?Roberts wants to make boarding really difficult to not make every game about boarding. However, there is a bunch of additions getting bonuses, like Melee stuff. Also, boarders will likely invest in heavy armor.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenI can understand not wanting boarding to destroy the balance late game. Again, to stick with X3, once you can board a ship it becomes your quick cash method. The space yakuza have an infinitely respawning carrier worth 40ish mil plus tons of transports worth 10ish.
The thing is making boarding hard but still profitable. With all that effort it might be more cost efficient to just blow em up and salvage whatever.
Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?I can see the risk vs payoff of boarding action, though. Blow it up, there's little left to salvage aside from maybe some loose cargo containers (if it's a big enough ship), bits of maybe rebuild-able equipment, and a ton of scrap metal that's only useful for scrap metal value. Have fun hoovering up all the pieces, too, since the ship should be reduced to an expanding debris field after it goes kablooie (might just turn into a non-expandable field, I'd be fine with that too).
Capture? Whole ship is yours to sell or use, pretty much as soon as you can crew it and do hasty repairs to get it going again (probably had to damage it in order to make boarding possible). Bonus points in having survivors to ransom off or do prisoner exchanges with...?
The British Navy, way back in the day, placed great importance on capturing ships - captains made a ton of bonus money off of that.
Happiness is zero-gee with a sinus cold.I doubt we will reach 5.5 million, but I think we will definitely reach 5 million.
Edit: I actually take that back. We will definitely hit 5.5 million.

Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenAww man. I'm poor, but I want this game...
There is another year or so.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenI found out that pledging gets you alpha and beta though...I'm really wondering what to do now.
You'd better think fast, then. It ends in like a day or so (I forget exactly when, off the top of my head, and since I'm already financially tapped out I've not worried about the big finale too much).
All your safe space are belong to Trump12 hours. I think I will.
Especially now I found out that this was also done to gain investor interest, so the game may get an even bigger budget.
An added incentive to contribute: The ship you get with a contribution is insured for life, without having to pay for it. In short, you lose it, the replacement is covered.
For those who buy a ship without having participated, they only give the owner of a new spaceship 3 months of replacement insurance, after which you have to pay for it.
(this from #wingnut on IRC where there's discussion about the live webcast for the final push)
All your safe space are belong to TrumpWhats the ship I get for 35 bucks?
Also I wonder who those 9 who paid 10k are.
The RSI Aurora is the ship you get at the $35 level. Exploration/light merchant, it's pretty much the SC equivalent of Privateer's Tarsus.
(Their site is getting hammered so it will be slow, and the anchors don't seem to work in either IE or Firefox so you'll have to manually page down. The Aurora is a little less than 2/3rds down the page.)
All your safe space are belong to TrumpAlready paid.
The fact that you can steal ships and have out of ship combat sold me.
>Boarding
>Cockpit customisation
>my face when
Memes and greentext aside, this alone has made my day. It's like they're making all my childhood dreams come true. Too bad that my computer would probably be slain under the mere effort of trying to get everything to run (and I'm sure as heck not going to upgrade for a single game, no matter how glorious it is).
So for now, at least, it looks like it's out of my reach.
EDIT:
Also, nthing the recommendation of Freelancer for newbies to the genre. It's my first space sim and I loved it (that, and it's got a shallower learning curve than X3).
