Oh but there is a point to her continued existence. Ymir is a way to flip from how ever since their time training to join the military Mikasa has been shown projecting what she wants to see onto Eren, to being right about him.

also how stockholm syndrome is cool and good actually. and a way to hastily shovel the spine-worm and the colossal titans out the back when they were inconvenient for the resolution.

I've actually heard that despite the reaction of many western fans, especially reddit titanfolk bros, japanese reception has been pretty good. Online reactions are always hard to cope with period, don't get me wrong, with your usual parade of trolls and haters. But I've heard that it's no more than usual and the general perception is good. Not here where most people, even if they don't hate the ending, will admit that the execution felt fumbled, etc. etc.

Also one of the most potent sources of hopium still left for fans who want a drastically different anime ending is anime only content/changes like eren's berserker mode fighting Annie in season 1, I suppose.

But I'm not holding my breath since apparently word of god is that the Falco original opening dialogue of season 4 "where was I? flying around with swords?..." was more just a meta commentary on "yes, there are machineguns and trenches, yes, you are watching the anime attack on titan, don't worry."

My personal hope is that there are some anime only changes to dialogue at the very least to make some scenes not so.... cringeworthy? Like if Eren's breakdown over Mikasa makes it in as it is...

Eren's bit about Mikasa was the most believable part of the PATHS reunion for me.

Would've been more believable if he gave any remote hint that he was romantically interested in Mikasa in the 138 chapters beforehand, I think.

That was one of the worst bits to me with how from the beginning of the series Mikasa has been set up as delusional about what Eren thinks and wants only for the series to flip to say she was really right the entire time.

The more I look at the colossal titan, the more I see Bert's flayed face.

So I read chapter 138 and chapter 139 and that what I think about the end: (Sorry for my bad English, English isn't my native language).

about chapter 139: Eren's death was expected but even if I didn't like it, it still affects me. about Mikasa, I like her character but I think she could gate a better development in the story and better use especially in the last arc. about Armin and Eren's conversation, the way it was done was good but I still think we needed to see more of the effects of what Eren said to Armin (and also Mikasa) in chapter 112. Eren said something that may be a lie but he still gives points to what he says, points that the characters ignore. about the end story conclusion, I think people forget something even in the real-life countries never stop fighting after "War World II" start the "Cold War" and after the "Cold War" start the war against terrorism so we really don't have a solution to this situation so I pace with this conclusion even if I not like it...

[Not Sure] Paradis Island was destroyed because of the war, but the power of Titans did not disappear.

If the power of the Titans didn't disappear, then that could mean that spinal worm thing is still around.

Oh boy, and there is still a full month before release.

Sounds like he went back to the original Myst-like ending (Eren sacrificing people for nothing)

Depends on if people feel its a mistake to begin with; many people were completely fine with the ending, so this is only going to cause more strife.

If these leaks are accurate, a handful of pages in a volume release after the fact completely changing the direction of the ending is far from "fixing" it. It's just making both people who liked and disliked the ending angry. Ni chicha ni limonada.

paradis island being destroyed and the titans power not going away wouldn't make a lick of sense though. Like, so how does the titanized cast gets back if it doesn't ? how does paradis get destroyed ? afterwards ? when 80% of the world got razed ?

I dunno about that last spoiler, i don't see how it'd fit. Mikasa actually getting a husband do be pretty cool though.

you know for a fact that she has sex with her husband, she's gonna be thinking of Eren. Don't even front.

Mixed feelings about this... but personally I'm happy that Mikasa has moved on and found some happiness (with Jean)? I think it helps bring her character arc full circle, moving on and becoming her own person outside of Eren.
