Unfortunately my impression of Aliens Area was unfavorable. Both the plot and the storytelling were too simple and bland. It’s like reading a high school student’s homework for English class.
I just now realized how relatively fewer alien sci-fi manga is.
At least I can't think of many series that actually feature space travel and going to alien planets.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It too soon to give any judgment for it since the it clearly haven't finish the introduction yet.
I take simple over "unique" premise but failed to deliver because the authors don't know how to handle the subject matter (TPGW, Red Hood, Ayashimon, Candy...) every time. Many of the series that has "unique" and "interesting" 1st chapter more often than not fumbled right after. Lots of successful series has relatively simple starting point.
E.T technically is a Isekai movieSo it’s a shonen spin on Men in Black, basically? The artstyle looks pretty cool at least.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.I dunno if I'm feeling it, personally, but maybe I'm just not interested in seeing stories about aliens among us (eeeeey) from the perspective of government spooks.
Like, the whole memory-wiping cover-up thing—just seems like kind of a dick move.

Oh God! Natural light!Right now I'd say it needs more character. The characters aren't interesting yet, and the premise is straight out of MIB. The art style is neat, but also kinda working against it? Everyone looks uncanny, which is bad when the series is about disguised aliens
@slimcoder Yeah there’s pretty much only Astra Lost in Space and Space Dandy off the top of my head.
@Battle Raizer The pilot itself can be evaluated, however. I don’t disagree that simple plots can be engaging; I am a huge fan of sports series after all. The problem is Aliens Area is too simple, to the point of being dry. The first few scenes has the MC discussing with a classmate about how he rejected a scholarship, as though wasting his physical prowess. That information could have instead been relayed by showing the MC performing some crazy stunt in PE class, then having the teacher talk to him about the scholarship, then have him politely rejecting before cutting to the reason why he did so.
There are several ways to write the sequence of events in this introduction that would be more eye-catching, thrilling, and interesting. Seriously, it’s manga-style MIB, it can be a lot better. Show more, tell less. Make the alien designs more alien. As Hylarn said, inject some freaking character into the story.
Crazy thing is now that I remember, Samurai 8 was that. Took place in a sci-fi setting featuring casual space travel and featured alien or at least unique lifeforms.
There's also Eden's Zero which features space travel and alien characters, being a full on Space Opera which unlike Samurai 8 is doing pretty well for itself.
Also its funny the manga should have had a more exciting start cause that is exactly how MIB introduced J, in the middle of a chase with a perp who turned out to be an alien thereby showing off his capabilities to the audience.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Oh yeah, totally forgot about those two. Edens Zero does count even though in my head it’s more of a fantasy series.
And, yeah, exactly, MIB already showed how fun the premise can be!
Marriagetoxin 8: Mission over, everyone’s happy, now Gero can move on to the difficult part. Himekawa looks quite dashing in this outfit I must say.
I can’t quite picture a romantic relationship between those two, though. Maybe a buddy-cop dynamic if Himekawa sticks around.
Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.Weekly Shonen Jump #28/2022 To C
Ruri Dragon (Jump cover and lead color pages, new Manga by Masaoki Shindo)
CLP: ALIENS AREA, PPPPPP, Mission of Yozakura Family
1. One Piece
2. Jujutsu Kaisen
3. Sakamoto Days
4. Me and Roboko
5. MASHLE
6. Blue Box
7. Akane Banashi
8. Super Smartphone
9. Elusive Samurai
10. Witch Watch
11. Highschool Family
12. Doron Dororon
13. Earthchild
14. Undead Unluck
The 1st volume sale look promising for Akane. Meanwhile Ayashimon and Doron 2nd volume sale fell even harder. Also thing not looking good for Undead Unluck.
E.T technically is a Isekai movieRuri Dragon was pretty adorable though I feel like someone, probably a boring, rules-abiding adult, should have freaked out about her fire breath.
Sakamoto Days: Nagumo would have made a killing as a makeup artist. Sakamoto looking like his wife is hilarious.
Mashle: Our protagonist is still MIA from being almost done in by his teacher. Turn that key, woman!
Elusive Samurai: So Yorishige has brains, influence, and precognition… now add martial prowess to the list. Hell, he’s strong precisely because he wants to be regarded as a god of the battlefield. And he might as well be!
Isn’t UU winding down anyway?

Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.Still have the loop to account for.
What really surprises me is how well WW is doing. Is the fact it does not take itself too seriously the reason for its' popularity?
If UU gets cut and the author has to end the story pre-loop I’ll regretfully have to put it in the same shrine with Psyren, Iron Knight, Double Arts and Mx0.
Apparently the randomness jives well with the audience.
x4. I was talking about the sale and the ranking, both have being for awhile now. Even if a series is about to end, most of the time it wouldn't be place at the bottom unless it popularity really plummeted.
E.T technically is a Isekai movieI really like Ruri Dragon, but boy it does not feel like something you'd expect from this magazine. Meanwhile, Aliens Area remains bland. You'd think MIB as a battle manga would have more personality...
UU normally does well and it sells decently. Would not count it out cause it was last once.
Hope Super Phone continues to do well.

UU haven't been doing well for awhile now. It already fell down the bottom 3 for the past couple of weeks. Also the sale has been on a decline with the newer volume selling less than the previous ones.

E.T technically is a Isekai movieYeah Aliens Area kind of feels like it’s reading off a script.
I also don’t think UU is in danger of cancellation anytime soon.
Edited by fillerdude on Jun 12th 2022 at 6:16:04 AM
I'm not so sure about UU future. Like for established series, WSJ place more emphasis on growth so a series with shrinking sale would make Jump not wanting to promote it anymore or push it to the back of the magazine. It also not the first time Jump does something like that, Souma fell into a decline and got put in the back. Also I wouldn't say cancelation, more like the the publishers give the author a deadline and told them to wrap thing up, usually for 6 months or a year.

E.T technically is a Isekai movieNot really? Magu-chan was still very much a comedy driven by large personalities. Ruri Dragon is much more slice of life so far
Did anyone read Aliens Area? I quite liked it but it's hard to get a gauge for what future chapters will be like. But I could be giving it the benefit of the doubt because I wish there was more sci fi in Jump (and Earthchild is really not doing it for me :P)
