Edit: I must've expected fan-art for some reason. Wasn't that bad. Isn't that kinda a thing with cartoons? When the characters are all sick at the end they're in the same bed, or same couch, or same room even.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If anyone has to die, I have a strong feeling that Stanford would be more expendable than Stanley. What I think is more likely however, is that neither of them will die for real (whether by means of a fake death or a temporary demise).

There is no such thing as "more expendable". This is the finale. There will be no future Gravity Falls episodes, which means nobody will be missed in future episodes. Nothing that has been important to the show's status quo must be preserved for the sake of the next season. Everything burning will have the same effect on Season 3 as nothing burning, because there is no Season 3.

When a story approaches its end, anything can happen because there will be no far-reaching consequences on future installments. This is exactly the point in the story where sacred cows get burned, the hometown is bulldozed, beloved characters die, etc. It's already started happening with Weirdmaggeddon. We have crossed the "Nothing will ever be the same" threshold.

I'm rewatching the Summerween Trickster episode, and I notice a couple things:

One, Old Man Mc Guckett was crazier than usual

Two, the Sumerween Trickster is fucking creepy

Three, Dipper is the jackass in this one instead of Mabel

There is still the possibility of more Gravity Falls content after the series is over. Alex said as much in his announcement about the end of the show. Not that I think it will have much bearing on what happens in the Finale. It'll mostly be about how safe the creative team wants to play it. If they want to play it somewhat safe then Ford is probably going to bite it. If they playing it more safe then nobody dies. If they are not playing it safe it'll probably be Stan. And if they going for a completely shameless twist downer ending then they'll kill off Mabel.

I don't think the last one is at all likely.
