I've started working on a smaller project recently because my big ol' Spyro-like project is too ambitious for my current skillset. A nice 2D platformer was the simplest thing I could think of, and I've made some decent progress on it. That kinda came to a halt, though - I'm at the point where the most obvious priorities like player movement and things to stab are there, but what remains is harder to sort by importance.

Now that I know more about Smile Game Builder, I plan to use it for my first rpg-genre game(specifically a Dungeon Crawler). It's called Tower of Pandemia.

The only thing I need to make sure of is if I can properly have the first person view in dungeons. Otherwise, I plan to use unique drawings for all the monsters instead of models to keep the retro style of it. I'm still working on lots of details, though. But what is confirmed is that it's going to at least be for older audiences(due to the names/jokes being a bit more adult. Like the monster American Whorer Story or The Loan Ranger being a Pimp).

It also has a tons of references, besides the two names above, to multiple games, shows, etc. A big shout out, really. Some names I'm still working on due to "wait, this joke was already done", though often it's more that the name was already used, so gotta spice it up a tad.

[up][up] Ah, that looks pretty cool thus far!

As to what to do next, do things have to be enacted in order of importance? As long as you're not working on nice-to-haves at the expense of building a working game, why not just work in order of inclination?

[up] I don't know Smile Game Builder—how are you finding it?

As for my own project, I think that I'm getting close to the point at which I can start focussing on content for a "vertical slice" demo. This is both an exciting and anxiety-inducing period, I will confess!

I haven't bought it yet, but that's because I wanted to make sure it could handle the genre.

I'll let you know once I experience it. I think it's similar to RPG Maker(easy assets, etc.), which is good for testing till you can make your own, at least.

Fair enough! I'm curious to hear how it works out, then!
