So, with Troper Tales gone, that whole "General sources of Nightmare Fuel, personal goes on Troper Tales" thing that is on a whole buncha pages is obsolete. The problem is... there's a whole buncha pages with it on it. Not just the main Nightmare Fuel/ MEDIUM GOES HERE pages, but on the work specific pages too.

We need people to look through the Nightmare Fuel pages and to get rid of the aforementioned message that was plastered everywhere. This'll take a bit of work, so um... get to it? I dunno, I don't know if I have the power to say that. But the problem won't fix itself. I'll do my part to help out.

In the event that Troper Tales ends up being returned... eh, we're screwed either way. I think we should just see what the final verdict on Troper Tales is (unless it has already been decided and I haven't noticed surprised)

Since when did I post on these again?

So, is the name of this trope going to remain "Accidental" forever?

What I don't understand is, why does only Nightmare Fuel get distinguished between Accidental and Intentional (High Octane), while Fetish Fuel and Nausea Fuel each stand alone?

I should also mention that people shouldn't have to say "High Octane Nightmare Fuel" or "Nightmare Fuel Unleaded" every time they want to refer to it. A lot of times, they just want to make it quick. If something's referred to as "Nausea Fuel", it's by no means accidental. Something's referred to as "Fetish Fuel", there is no distinction between intentional (which it is most of the time) or unintentional. And even if there was, someone is certainly at fault for choosing the words "High Octane" to refer to intentional, when that choice of words would otherwise mean Up To Eleven.

In my opinion, High Octane Nightmare Fuel should be called just Nightmare Fuel, and if there's going to be an Accidental version of this trope, it should just be a new (sub)trope altogether.

Mc Knight, the original Nightmare Fuel trope was Accidental Nightmare Fuel. Then people started adding intentional examples, so High Octane Nightmare Fuel was launched (under the name Nightmare Fuel Unleaded, until people pointed out that name didn't make sense in context).

But this is really a topic for another thread - this one, for instance.

So, you're saying it really was called Accidental Nightmare Fuel, and then abbreviated to just Nightmare Fuel?

When you think about it, Accidental Nightmare Fuel and High Octane Nightmare Fuel have many of the same problems Troper Tales had. Not to the same extent, of course, but still enough that it should be considered as a good reason for scrapping each trope and starting over.

[up][up] No, the name was Nightmare Fuel from the beginning, the accidental part was just implied (as in "not in the title"). The word "Accidental" was added as a measure against misuse.

Custom title trouble. Typing "Nightmare Fuel" as a link results in linking to Accidental Nightmare Fuel.
