@SCM: I thought about that already. The rest of the class hasn't participated in the previous fights because they've been training to try catch up with those who went to Mundus Magicus. Done. You can even have flashbacks of the training.
Oh, and after thinking about it, I realised that I designed that alien race in 2002, so it's actually almost ten years old.
Another bunch of snippets:
“RING CONSTRUCT! STARLIGHT BREAKER!”
The city was bathed in emerald light as the enormous, building-sized sphere of energy instantly formed and burst into a deadly, implacable beam. It slammed into the Book of Darkness, completely encompassing it with its width. Then the beam detonated, exploding into an annihilating sphere of green light so bright it seemed almost white. The sphere seemed about to surge outward, as such explosions are wont to, before it suddenly shuddered and began to contract. Its light became brighter.
Illya starred in confusion, wondering what was stopping the obviously intense blast from growing and turning her into crispy-fried-Illya-chunks when she realized Nanoha was still controlling the blast, keeping it contained and concentrating its full destructive power on the Book.
Nanoha! She heard Fate’s panicked cry in her mind.
“Don’t worry!” Nanoha responded, though there was strain in the girl’s voice. Apparently, this wasn’t as easy as it seemed. “Power Rings are always at non-lethal force when used against sentient beings. Hayate-chan will be fine!”
Illya blinked. “THAT’S YOUR IDEA OF NON-LETHAL?-!-?-!-?-!”
“Well, it’ll hurt a lot, but it won’t kill her,” Nanoha said, sounding like this was a self-evident fact.
“Having… flashbacks…” Fate murmured, staring. “Not the face… not the face…”
“Look, I never aimed for the face!”
“Hey!” Nanoha called out, though her voice sounded slightly shaky. Her beam was attenuating at the point of impact, and Illya could vaguely make out some kind of spherical area there. “Are you making fun of me?”
Of course not, Nanoha-chan, Fate said. If we were, it would be called a Nanoha Grade Genocide blast.
“Oh. Well, that’s okay th– HEY!”
“I didn’t send that telepathically, did I?” she asked Arf.
“Send what?” Arf asked her, not turning away from their enemy.
“The thought about dying…”
“No, you didn’t.”
“Ah. Good.”
“I wouldn’t have been able to help you with it anyway. It’d be weird, and Nanoha’s… probably kinda useless at it. And I don’t think Illya-san knows you well enough to be comfortable with it…”
Fate gave her a sideways glare. “You said I hadn’t sent anything!”
“Master, I don’t need to hear your thoughts to know what you’re thinking, especially when it’s that. It’s one of a familiar’s 108 innate secret skills. Linith taught me so.”
They listened to Illya’s cry of “Maximal Durchstechen” in relative silence.
“That brings up very disturbing thoughts about how Linith would have taught you to recognize that…”
“Yeah, it was no picnic knowing when that woman was in the mood…”
A dimensional layer and several worlds away, Precia Testarossa sneezed and wondered why she was thinking of her dead familiar…

Meanwhile, to keep this thread alive: I want to keep Mami from dying in 2814? I can't use the Spectre, and Puella Magi are kinda distant from other magical girls here. Any suggestions?
Use the Thanks Kyubey solution, where Homura saves Mami's life in the last moment.
Okay. Maybe Charlotte woke up earlier and trapped someone else (exactly who is up to you to decide who fits best) inside her barrier. Charlotte's abillities as a witch cause the person to go all Heroic BSoD and she's about to eat them when Mami arrives. Mami's fight distracts Charlotte which causes the person to come to their senses a bit and seeing Mami about to get eaten wakes them up completely and they rescue Mami. From that point, you have a lot of options.

In Unequally, I'm writing her and Ayaka as actually good, although never too close, acquaitances/casual friends with common interests and compatible viewpoints. The only hurdle is they happen to like the same boy, although Ayaka does't know that yet...

I thought Mami was the type who could be good friends with nearly anyone? That that was her basic character?
Maybe someone who also doesn't have any parents? You could do the same thing in here that's in Unequally and make her and Hotaru cousins or something.
Mami's characteristic is loneliness. Therefore, she'd want to make friends with anyone, but that doesn't mean that she'd be succesful. It could be someone who is drawn to her by her loneliness. That's a characteristic of Nanoha, but others could probably work as well.

Has anyone else noticed how similar Magia Erebea and being a Puella Magi are? Both give you power, but at the cost of your soul slowly darkening and depleting. What if Evangeline had accidentally stumbled onto an internalized variant of Puella Magi powers? What if Negi uses ME a TAD too much and goes completely dark without realizing, and someone says something at the wrong moment to temporarily make him lose hope...

On another note, I remember in one fic, not sure if it's yours or in Unequally, that Asuna is complaining that she's knocked out at the most important fights. Did someone explain to her the Worf effect yet? Cause she suffers it big time.
And on another note from that, what about my lantern character notes? I'm thinking he works best as a red, possibly from Laira or Sinestro's planet. Laira's works better considering their martial culture, but if you want him yellow, Sinestro's might work better, he can be some kind of Sinestro imitator.
