I'm halfway through the second season of 2045, and I keep wondering if the mute killer lady is based on Princess Azula, visually.

I found her design pretty stereotypical - the "cute office lady" sort, nothing more.

Azula's personality really needs Grey Delisle's smug arrogance and confidence to shine through, and her being a complete mute without a single spoken (or even written) line ruins that.

I thought she said stuff in the flashback when she was torturing Togasa as a sexy nurse.

[up]Wait... that was her? Could've sworn that was a completely different character.

Lemme check the wiki...

EDIT: Go figure, the fandom wiki sucks (it says she was a former Olympian, but nothing else, and the torture nurse is barely even mentioned in the entry for the episode she appears in), some folks think she might've been a freelancer doing wetwork prior to being turned into a posthuman, and the older media sources are nonexistent. Ironically this J-List Blog post seems to have the most insight: that "nurse" is probably a figment of Togusa's imagination, since it's implied his flashback isn't 100% accurate. He was somehow stumbling around in a snowstorm without freezing for three days, and she probably substituted for someone else.

[up]But had Togasa seen her before that point to hallucinate her later?

I also wonder if Takashi Shimamura is based visually on Makoto Yuki.

UPDATE: I finished 2045 and now I just feel frustrated.

Yep, it's a pretty disappointing ending. Can't go anywhere into the future with it due it's ambiguity and the sheer amount of world-shaking change it brought to the SAC timeline. Cause even if Kusanagi disconnected the World of N, the post-humans are still out there, and it doesn't seem like nobody's able to truly seal that particular Pandora's Box ever again. The post-humans are gradually going to increase in number, no matter what humanity does, either by necessity or convenience.

So it's either time for the brand to create a new timeline, make an interquel possibly between SAC season 2 and 2045, or just ignore the events of 2045 altogether... which, I must say, I would not be annoyed if done so.

If they are all trapped in the Matrix, then not only does that mean Takashi Shimamura is laughably overpowered, not only does that mean Section 9 is dead, but trapping everyone in the Matrix is asking for a serious catastrophe down the line.

If they aren't all trapped in the Matrix, then Section 9 is some sort of weird clone group who don't know, Purin is dead, and her clone is a piece of shit who got away with murdering Batou at the last second for nothing.

If the entire show is in the Matrix, what kind of Matrix sends its occupants on a mission that fails and sends them into a second Matrix?

From what I understand everything past a certain point was completely part of the N simulation, including America successfully dropping the bioweapon and the nukes firing - all because Takashi needed to craft a convincing cover story for the Americans to back off and think they won, all within their own little artificial N info bubble. Which, by the way, means that both the N migrants and the Japanese public have their own separate info bubbles, too.

Which raises yet another question: just how many separate artificial "dreamworlds" exist, and just how the hell can the simulation successfully disguise all the discrepancies that will no doubt start piling up? Whole thing seems doomed to failure from day one.

They kept calling their new world the Singularity, but it really wasn't.
