I got Battletoads 2020 on Steam a little while ago. I'd played the original for NES when I was child. I did manage to beat it once, but that was only with the help infinite lives via a Game Genie, and a LOT of patience. Later, I'd get the Genesis version, and I managed to beat that one legitimately ... once. I've also beaten Battletoads & Double Dragon for Genesis. I played the arcade game a few times, but I never got that far in that one.

As for Battletoads 2020, I just completed the first stage of Act 3 (playing on Toad difficulty, FYI, with an X Box One controller). I don't know if I'm overlooking something or if the hit detection in this game is just wonky, but there are some attacks in the beat-em-up sections that I'm having a hard time landing. Mainly Pimple's launcher (which I can only hit with rarely) and Zitz's guard breaker (which I haven't landed a hit with even once), but even in jab combos, a few of the hits miss sometimes. If you fail a section enough times on the lower two difficulties, you can use temporary invincibility to cheese through it, and I'll admit, there have been a few times where I've had to use it.

I've been handling the minigame levels a bit easier, though. Out of the ones I've seen so far, the shoot-em-up has been my favorite, though my experience playing Touhou games probably helped with that. The hardest one so far was the boarding level. With three different types of rails that each have a different button for grinding on them, on top of having to jump over pits and obstacles. Temporary invincibility in that stage also lets you use any grinding button on any rail type, but even then it was hard since falling was the main hazard in that one. There were a few times where I felt like slipping into (mumbled offensiveness) on that level.

The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.
