That's what I'm getting at. It's just a theory I have.
I'm pretty sure there's more to the redub and new subs than just changing the Shinji/Kaworu relationship, I mean the film is pretty ambiguous on several aspects and introduces a bunch of new lore/terminology whose meaning hasn't been made clear which makes it harder to translate.
Remember the guy who tweeted about this said:
If both tracks are so different to each other, then toning down the Shinji/Kaworu relationship would be just one of the changes made, it can't be the only major one.
Also to back this up, the opening disclaimer on the BD/DVD before the menu reads:

there is no point to toning down the subtext of the shinji/kaworu relationship.
Much like everything else in 3, the problem it's not it's dramatic or gay, but it's so overblown it comes off as raw Narm.
Not to mention that it feels like it came at the expense of the other characters, at least to me.
Nvm fake.

- Mari and Asuka are much less combative with each other. Mari's nickname is now "Four-eyed crony" instead of just "four-eyes."
- Unit 02's space pod is "2 dash" instead of "oh two prime." Same with Unit 08's being just "Pod 8."
- Asuka didn't mention an Anti-AT Field from 4A in the original dub but she does in this one.
- As I said, Mari is "Four-Eyed Crony." Asuka is "Princess," "Highness," and "boss."
- Near Third Impact is "N 3 I"
- Sakura says Shinji will never be allowed to take the DSS Choker off, not ever. He begs for them to please help him remove it.
- Maya complains about the crew being whiners and says that's why she hates young men.
- Unit 01 is still Unit 01. No 01 Units here!
- Misato calls Ritsuko "XO" a couple times.
- Unit 02' is "Unit 02 Improved" and "Unit 02 I"
- Shinji begs to do something to help out when the Wunder attacks. He sounds so desperate that you really feel bad for him.
- Misato's line is: "Listen closely, Shinji. From this moment on, you do nothing."
- "Pillars of Light" is capitalized in the HV subs.
- Sakura and Ritsuko make it very clear that they ARE trying to explain things to Shinji in the quarantine room scene. Ritsuko is very to the point in her explanations
- When Shinji finds out what the DSS choker does, he says, "Misato, you'd really let me die?" in a very wounded voice. Right in the feels!
- Sakura is a 2nd lieutenant and her brother's name is spelled "Tohji" in the subs.
- The Curse of Eva is "the curse of the Evas."
- Mari calls Shinji "Our Little Puppy" when she's talking to Asuka on the phone. This bit is great.
- It's more clear that the telepathic voice Shinji is hearing is coming from Rei Q and Mark.09. She calls him "Shinji Ikari" at first and then switches to just "Shinji."
- Misato tells Shinji "you're staying with us" when the Mark.09 attacks with no mention of protection, but the subs say they're keeping him in protective custody. They also play up Shinji's belief that Mark.09 is Unit 00. Misato sounds sad when she tells Shinji Rei's no longer in this world.
- Here's an interesting one. The Vessel is "The Vessel of the Adams" in the dub but "Adams' Vessel" in the HV subs.
- When Mark.09 flies away, Mari yells, "Hey, I'm talking to you! Come back here, jack-ass!"
- Asuka does not call Shinji an asshole, just a brat. For most of the battle in Dogma, she still calls him Idiot Shinji.
- Eva 13 is just Eva Unit 13. Nothing to indicate the "dai" in its name. It's also called this in the subs.
- Kaworu pronounces his name oddly. It sounded like "Cow-a-ru Nagi-sa." Shinji says it the more familiar way and slightly rolls the "r."
- Kaworu's explanation of Third Impact is mostly the same.
- The Doors of Guf are the "Gates of Guf" in both sub and dub. They pronounce it "Goff."
- Kaworu is "The Seele Boy." Shinji is still the Third Child in the dub, but the subs call him Third Boy.
- Fuyutsuki's infodump on Shinji is mostly the same too.
- When Shinji questions Rei Q after his conversation with Rei Q, the subs say, "You are the one I saved, right?"
- Kaworu and Shinji are on a first-name basis. In the scene where they would go by first names, Kaworu says he's Shinji's friend, and Shinji affirms that Kaworu really is a great friend, like he's amazed at the idea.
- Kaworu refers to the plug in the main shaft as "Lilith's seal."
- Kaworu says a replica can't retrieve a spear because their soul resides somewhere else.
- Mari says she can't kill the Vessel, but she can pin it down. This is in the subs. In the dub, she says she can't blow its head off, but she can slow it down.
- Asuka says Shinji caused one Impact and asks if he wants to cause another, and calls him naive when he says they can redo everything. I didn't notice the subs for this part. But for the most part, Asuka is telling him to stop trying to help because it only makes things worst, and that the best thing he can do is get out of the Eva.
- Subs: Mari tells Rei to get out of Mark.09 before she becomes part of the Vessel.
- This is a weird one: Weird one: Dub Asuka tells Shinji to "Lie down and take your punishment! Quit fighting!" But in the subs, she says "SHUT UP AND LET ME KILL YOU, IDIOT SHINJI." I don't know what to make of that but I don't like it. :cringe:
- Kaworu says he, the 1st Angel, was utterly defeated by the 13th. He does say later that he became the 13th Angel.
- Here's a very interesting one. Gendo does not say that Seele abandoned the killing of god as in UTW-Thora's translation. He said that they desired it (dub) and resigned themselves to it (sub). He also says that Seele are beings with the Fruit of Knowledge who have changed their shape but cannot escape death when it comes for them. They are honoring Seele by returning their souls to where they belong.
- Mari says Eva 13 "must be a straggler Adam." The subs and dubs are identical. When it awakens, Asuka says it is advancing "beyond the pseudo DMS phase."
- The Vessel of Adams is the Wunder's true master, same as before.
- Asuka speaks in a raspy, growly voice when she's in Code 777 mode. It's actually kinda creepy at first. She's still full ham and cheese when she shoots the Vessel in the core, though.
- Misato sounds frustrated at Shinji after the Vessel is dislodged. She just says, "Shinji," but you can hear the implied, "God damn it, Shinji."
- When Asuka reads Shinji the riot act at the end, she dresses him down for being a selfish brat who thinks shutting up is the answer. "You didn't even come to my rescue. Thanks a lot."
- Asuka says Rei Q is from the original batch of Ayanami clones. Sub and dub.
- The L-barrier is "L containment field." Both sub and dub. They also call the barrier around the main engine a containment field.
- The title for the next movie is "Shin Evangelion Theatrical Edition" and the subtitles say to stay tuned for more special goodies. That's promising!

That more or less explains Kaworu's behaviour in Central Dogma. He was taking a risk in going down there and left himself vulnerable the moment they reached Lilith.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.Neat. But for the record, you could put such a long list in a folder (yes, they actually work now in the forum).
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Aw, I really wanted to hear the asshole line. But it looks good aside from pronunciation of Kaworu's name

Nope.
Let me guess: you're one of those who refused to watch it without a dub?
..... what's all this about???
I thought you said that because you were that grateful to JRPictures for finally knowing what's in the movie.

.... dude, I saw the movie in 2013 or something.

I remember the manga more or less made it explicit that Shinji was romantically interested in Kaworu.

Manga is its own continuity, and it's characters are very different from both NGE and Rebuild.
PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyShit. I do not like the sound of this one at all.
Dub-wise it really seems that Asuka doesn't hate him but is really pissed off at him.
Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.With Asuka, the line between hate and pissed off... may very well not exist.
One Strip! One Strip! From what I hear, the dub may go a long way in dispelling that "Everybody hates Shinji myth," though. Which will be great, since that attitude is annoyingly prevalent all over the movie's trope pages and character sheets.

So they don't hate him, they are just really angry with him, and it takes them time to deal with it then?
So does that mean they really did try to explain things to him?
One Strip! One Strip! That's been obvious since forever ago. It's just the enemy attacked when they were first going to explain things and they had to hold off till later.
Something people completely ignored.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Even so, I highly doubt that putting a bomb collar on his neck did much to persuade him to stay. Why on earth they didn't just tell him beforehand is beyond me. So while they don't hate him per se, they're still extremely stupid in terms of dealing with him, and the film goes to such lengths to side with them on everything that it feels downright mean.
So while I get that point, I feel that Anno failed to execute it in a clear and understandable manner, due to being so focused on just beating the audience over the head with how much Shinji screwed up without any sort of opposing viewpoint.
Seriously, that film pretty much killed off any enthusiasm I have towards the franchise as a whole until details on the next film are released. Which probably won't be for another year.

Maybe they didn't intentionally mean for the relationship to come across as gay.
