Alternate Character Interpretation: Why exactly did the Swamp Hermit hold Grady captive? Was he trying to protect Grady while he dealt with the werewolf? Or was he planning to use him as bait and howling to lure the werewolf to his hut? It could go either way; he later spared Grady and allowed him to live after he thought that he caught the werewolf, though that could also be a case of a Heel–Face Turn when he realized that he didn't actually need Grady as bait at all.
The Woobie: The TV adaptation especially paints Will as this, with him clearly having no control over his actions and being ashamed of what he is. The fact that he's a Death by Adaptation doesn't help, either.
