• Ass Pull: Slappy's laser eyes and power to bring non-dummy objects to life have never been used before and surely would have come in handy in his previous stories.
• Nightmare Retardant: The book opens with Slappy tormenting a new family with all his usual tricks but absolutely none of his usual subtlety, and as a result he's locked back in his trunk and donated to a museum within minutes. It gives off the impression Slappy just wasn't trying this time.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The magic words that awaken the two monsters are very similar. If they'd actually been the same, the story could have them put Slappy to sleep and awaken Arragotus at the same time, meaning the protagonists would have to choose which monster to deal with until the climax, as no matter what, one would be awake.
