• Angst? What Angst?: Besides a rather passing mention of the fact that Riker isn't used to following a schedule or taking orders, he's utterly unfazed by the fact that he's effectively spent the past eight years in solitary confinement. He's cheerful, completely at ease with other people, and has absolutely no qualms about immediately returning to the place where he was trapped for eight years.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
  • The creative staff briefly toyed with the idea of killing Will Riker and having Thomas join the cast, resulting in Data being promoted to XO and Thomas taking over as operations officer. Instead, they could have simply had Will finally take a captaincy and allow Thomas to take his place. This would have opened up a whole host of new plot and cast dynamics to play with in season seven, which is often criticized for having run out of ideas. It would allow the show to stop belaboring Will's decision to freeze his career by remaining XO and would open up new opportunities for romance between Thomas and Troi or Data's new promotion.
  • Given how much Data and Worf talk about the animosity between the two Rikers one would think someone would bring up Data's double.
