• Overshadowed by Controversy: It's extremely difficult to discuss this book without mentioning the 1988 revelation that the official contest winner, Dugald Thompson (under the pseudonym "Ken Thomas"), was a con artist who had cheated his way to victory by using a chain of personal connections instead of solving the book's puzzles legitimately, and he used the hare as collateral to publish a computer game called Hareraiser that is widely believed to be another scam.
