M'Benga mentions that his family, not his daughter, when speaking of wanting to go home and not come back changed by the war? This line, combined with being a seemingly single father to his daughter indicates two possibilities:- His partner left him after he returned from the war with severe PTSD and their daughter was quickly dying of a terminal illness.
- His partner died soon after these flashbacks, leaving him mentally ill and stuck caring for his sick daughter alone.
Either way, he clearly was desperately suppressing his trauma to find the mental stamina to cure his daughter, and now that his purpose has been removed, he has significantly harder of a time keeping his demons at bay.
