• Real Life Writes the Plot: Carter's reassignment to Area 51 and Vala 'unofficially' taking her place. Amanda Tapping went on maternity leave after Season Eight and so Carter had to be written out of the first quarter of Season Nine. Vala was selected both to fill that absence and because the production team and Claudia Black wanted to revist Vala after the positive reception to "Prometheus Unbound".
  • The focus on the Daniel-Vala dynamic was also this. Apart from being a follow-up to "Prometheus Unbound", they also wanted to downplay any Mitchell-Vala interactions (initially at least) to avoid comparisons to Ben Browder and Claudia Black's roles in Farscape (apart from in-jokes).
