• Artist Disillusionment: Heavily. Rinmaru dropped the series due to the amount of harassment she was receiving. She works practically non-stop and decided it was just not worth it to put that effort into a game where all she got in return was hate and anger. She has basically disowned the series now, saying that the fans can do whatever they want with it but she wants nothing to do with it anymore, or ever again.
• Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: See above. The series' Unpleasable Fanbase was so vitriolic toward Rinmaru; the way she saw it, it could only get worse with more installments since there's no way to satisfy everyone. She even briefly removed the already completed chapters from her site, although later restored them^note At least, until Adobe Flash shuts down. However, she's still planned for the manga, which was once public, to be exclusive to Patreon patrons, and is absolutely not planning on releasing any of what was planned/completed for Echoes in the Dark^note The fourth chapter, which she had been working on, non-exclusively, for four years.
