Tear Jerker / NorthaDawn

Go To

It's NorthaDawn, so there's always potential for heartstring-tugging pieces.

  • Old Reliable (2018) gave us our first taste of his potential. While Titanic and Britannic were given normal portraits, Olympic was drawn in tears, with both of her sisters in the background, sinking.
  • Pretty much all of his Titanic anniversary drawings apply in this category, with every iteration depicting Titanic in her final moments before she dies. Until the Bitter End is probably the hardest-hitting one of the bunch, wasting no effort to emphasize that while Titanic is trying to stay up, she's fully aware that she doesn't have much time left. Dr. Roy Cullimore's poem from Titanic: Anatomy of a Disaster being in the description of the drawing is the perfect cherry on top.
    • Then there's Racing to the Rescue showing Carpathia's mad dash across the ice to reach Titanic before she fully goes under. Her facial expression drives home how she's feeling at the moment: she could easily have her life cut short by trying to speed through the ice in total darkness, but getting to Titanic is much more important in this situation.
    • The draft sketch of what could've been the 2023 edition. Titanic's ghost embraces her emotionally devasted older sister, who's sorry for not being able to reach her in time to save her that fateful night.
  • A sketch of Olympic in the year 1935 shows Olympic in a far cry from her glory days. She's outlived her usefulness, and she appears to have resigned to her fate.
  • The introductory biography of DROWNED revealed that 15-year-old Emily McLoughlin suffered recurring nightmares of hitting a mass of ice at midnight and dying alone in the North Atlantic as she was getting ready to become RMS Titanic. The nightmares got worse as time progressed, to the point where Emily really considered quitting out of pure fear.
Emily: It continues to disturb me as I try to sleep each night. However, these days, the ghost seems to look like a mirror image of myself. I'm scared. I don't want to do this anymore, I want to go back home. But I can't.
  • In a non-Titanic related example, we have Limitless, with Sayori shown being controlled and dangled around like a puppet by Monika.
