Sandbox / Atmosfear Khufu How To Play

Go To

And here's one for Khufu.

THE AIM OF THE GAME

  • DVD board game Khufu is a race against time.
  • Your aim is to win the game before 45 minutes expires.
  • To do this, you must collect Treasures, lay down all four of your Scarabs by beating the tables inside the four Chambers of Khufu's pyramid, then race to the Chamber with Khufu's Sarcophagus to face Khufu's Ultimate Challenge.
  • If you win the challenge, you've won the game! But if nobody succeeds in beating Khufu before 45 minutes have elapsed, then Khufu is the winner!

SETTING UP

  • Set up the board in front of your TV and DVD player so everyone has a clear view of the screen.
  • Turn up the volume; the 5.1 Surround soundtrack will create the ultimate atmosphere!
  • Place the four Chambers on the board in their starting positions.
  • Shuffle and place the decks of Treasure cards and Curse cards beside the board.
  • Place the pairs of symbol dice and number dice near the board ready for use.
  • Put Khufu's Sarcophagus in the King's Chamber, and the Coin in the Queen's Chamber.
  • Everybody choose a playing piece, and take your corresponding character card and set of Scarabs.
  • Put your pieces in the Servant's Chamber; this is where you start the game.
  • Shuffle and deal out one Symbol card to each player. This will be your lucky symbol throughout the game.
  • The six symbols correspond to those on the symbol dice and the Treasure cards. They're divided into two suits: Animals and Royals.
  • When everything is set up and you're ready to start the game, choose "Play" from the main menu. This will summon Khufu.
  • When he asks who is playing, use the DVD remote control to tell him which characters are in the game.
  • He will then choose "Lucky", his servant, to perform tasks on his behalf. "Lucky" rolls first to start the game
  • Once the game and the countdown have begun, you must not press "Stop" or "Pause".

RULES OF PLAY

  • Starting from inside the Servant's Chamber, take turns to roll one of the number dice and move clockwise around the board.
  • Whenever Khufu appears, you must STOP, listen and do exactly what he says. If you're in the middle of a turn, your turn is now over.
  • When you land on a "Treasure" space, you may take one Treasure card from the deck.
  • Keep your Treasures face down, to conceal them from your opponents.
  • When you land on or are sent to a "Curse" space, pick up a Curse card, follow the instructions immediately, then return the card to the bottom of the deck.
  • When you land on a "Steal" space, and if you have Treasure of your own, you can steal one Treasure from an opponent. But, if that Treasure you steal is protected by a cobra, you gotta give it straight back and give that player one of your own Treasures. So if you don't have any Treasure, you can't steal from others.
  • Your aim is to enter each of the four Chambers and place a Scarab inside each one.
  • You do not need an exact roll to enter a Chamber. But, you do need Treasure.
  • Each Chamber features a simple game of chance with a minimum wager. So, you're only allowed to enter a Chamber if you have enough Treasures in your hand.
  • You may not pass through a Chamber and move on to another in the same move. And you can't turn around inside a Chamber to move back onto the track.
  • Once inside, you must stop, and immediately lay a bet and try your luck at the table in that Chamber.
  • The minimum wager in the Servant's Chamber is 1 Treasure card. You must have at least 1 Treasure before you're allowed to enter. As soon as you have entered the Chamber, place your bet and roll one of the number dice. To beat the table, you must roll an odd number.
  • The minimum wager in the High-Priest's Chamber is 2 Treasure cards. Place a bet of 2 or more, roll one of the number dice, and roll an even number to beat the table.
  • The minimum wager in the Queen's Chamber is 3 Treasure cards. Place your bet and toss Khufu's Coin. If it comes up "Tails", you win. "Heads", lose your stake.
  • The minimum wager in the King's Chamber is 4 Treasure cards. Place your bet of 4 or more and choose 2 of those cards to play with. Lay them face up in front of you and roll one of the symbol dice. If the symbol on the dice matches either of your 2 Treasure cards, you've beaten the table!
  • The first time you beat the table in a Chamber, you place one of your Scarabs there. You might later return to a Chamber in which you've already placed a Scarab. So the next time you beat that table, you double your wager instead. That means you keep your stake and take the same number of Treasures from the deck.
  • Each time you fail to beat the table, you lose your wager. Return the Treasures you wagered to the bottom of the deck.
  • You can stay in that Chamber and try again on your next turn, as long as you have enough Treasure for the minimum wager. If you don't have enough Treasure, you must leave on your next turn and continue clockwise around the board.
  • Finally, you can enter each Chamber as many times as you like. And remember, whenever you're in a Chamber, you must lay a wager and play the game.

WINNING THE GAME

  • As soon as you've placed all 4 of your Scarabs in the 4 Chambers and you have 3 or more Treasures in your hand, make your way to the Chamber that has Khufu's Sarcophagus.
  • As soon as you reach the Chamber, press the "Menu" or "Title" button on the remote control to play Khufu's Ultimate Challenge.
  • This will pause the countdown and Khufu's hand of 3 cards will be displayed on-screen.
  • The servant, "Lucky", must now shuffle all your Treasure and deal you 5 cards face up.
  • If you face the challenge with only 4 Treasures, "Lucky" will deal all 4. And if you only have 3, "Lucky" just deals all 3.
  • The aim is to create the strongest poker hand with the greatest number of matching symbols.
  • Select the best 3 cards to be your hand. Then, roll the symbol dice.
  • To make up your final hand, combine the 2 symbols on the dice with the symbols on your 3 cards.
  • Combine the same 2 dice symbols with Khufu's cards on-screen to complete his hand.
  • The hand ranking from best to worst is five of a kind down to 'one pair' or less. The best hand wins.
  • If your hand is better than Khufu's, take the remote control and select "Win"; you are the ultimate winner of the game!
  • If your hand is worse than Khufu's, you lose. Return your 3 Treasures to the bottom of the deck.
  • If your hands are both equal, it's a draw!
  • When you lose or draw, select the "Lose/Draw" button, move your piece to the furthest Curse space and the game will continue.
  • For practice play, with step-by-step instructions on the Ultimate Challenge, visit "Khufu's Casino School".
