Recap / The Red Dragon's Saber Ch 3 Change Of Fate

Go To

The Fallen Angels attack Artoria over and over, but she easily dodges or parries them with her invisible weapon, even when they try attacking her from behind. Her invisible weapon shatters their spears of light every time they make contact. Though they can simply make a new spear when the old one breaks, it still frustrates them. Raynare demands to know who and what she is, but Artoria does not say anything. Raynare tries to escape, but Artoria hits her with her invisible weapon and knocks her into her comrades again. This is not the first time they have been hit, and the Fallen Angels guess that the weapon is either a club or she has been hitting them with the flat side of a blade, which insults them as it implies they are being toyed with, and Raynare gets angrier when she sees her flawless skin is being covered with bruises. Raynare long believed Angels like herself were perfect beings and the only creatures who could be a threat to her were higher ranked Angels. She and her comrades never trained due to believing no one on Earth could threaten them. She speculates Artoria might be as strong as an eight-winged Angel, and cannot understand why she would help Asia and a "worthless loser" like Issei. She becomes scared at the thought that Koneko was right and she is a dragon, but becomes enraged and declares nothing will stop her plan to use Asia and her powers to ascend and attacks again.

Issei's group walks along the street. As it is night in Kuoh Town, nobody is out, which is good since Asia is walking while trying to hold the remnants of her shirt together. Issei hisses in pain from the wound on his back. Asia examines the wound while offering to heal him, but her attention brings him more pain. Kiba reminds her that they are Devils and cannot stand the touch of the cross necklace she wears. She apologizes and takes the necklace off. She mutters a prayer, which gives the Devils a headache, then hangs the necklace on a fence. Rias says they need to find a place to hide that is a safe distance from that stranger before Asia heals him. Issei thinks about Koneko calling her a dragon. He is inclined to believe her and agrees that she is powerful and dangerous, but after seeing her smile, he promises to himself that he will come back for her.

Artoria is not enjoying the fight. She believes in fighting head on, but since she promised not to kill her opponents, she has to hold back. Also, unlike the previous times she had been summoned, she did not receive any information about this world and current events. She had never heard of Fallen Angels before, and the male one who wears a trench coat and fedora demanded to know what magic makes her weapon invisible, while that spell to her is mere Magecraft and not True Magic. These are clues that she is now in a different world. Even more shocking, she is now in a body of flesh and blood. Her heart is beating and she is breathing. Fortunately, she has experience in being summoned while still alive. Though the energy powering her feels strange, she has all her powers, including her Noble Phantasm Invisible Air, which uses wind control to bend light to make her sword invisible.

She breaks the male Fallen Angel's spear of light, then resisting the urge to decapitate him, shoulder tackles him and sends him flying. She is glad her Mana Burst skill, which lets her use her Mana to amplify her strength and speed, is working. As the Fallen Angels attack again, she thinks to herself that she will keep her promise not to kill them so she can avoid a war. She had seen too many wars in her lifetime and she will avoid Issei and Asia having to experience it as long as she can.

She dodges an attack from one of them, a short girl with blonde hair in twintails wearing a black and white gothic lolita dress. She thinks that outfit is impractical for fighting, but it could be enchanted. The blonde tries to escape. Instead of chasing her on foot, Artoria leaps up with Mana Burst, which turns out to be the right move as a thrown spear would have hit her otherwise. She kicks off the ceiling and smashes the blonde into the floor with a double stomp. She is glad she still has Instinct, the skill to see the flow of a fight and find the best option, and that it hasn't been dulled by her years of peace in Avalon. She isn't sure how powerful she is compared to when she was a Servant, but it will do.

One of them tries to ambush her by thrusting her spear through a couch, but she still dodges it and backhands the couch away. This opponent has long, dark blue hair and wears an extremely tight maroon top and micro skirt. Since this outfit is also impractical in battle, Artoria speculates she wears it to distract male opponents, and can only hope that her Knights of the Round Table would not fall for it if they were here. She sweeps the Fallen Angel's legs, then smashes her weapon into her face. She stays down. Artoria is glad. She had been steadily increasing the power of her blows with each attack and now she knows the right amount of force to beat them.

Artoria faces the last of them, Raynare. Raynare had declared her name while trying to question her. Raynare wears nothing but all black bra and thong, shoulder pads, thigh high boots, and long gloves that cover her arms. The only positive thing Artoria can think of about her outfit is that it would give her freedom of movement. Artoria thinks her a poor leader because she is emotionally unstable. Raynare is bleeding from the head from their last clash. She dual wields spears and charges her like a berserker. Artoria easily blocks her attacks and sends her flying, but she comes back. Artoria considers testing if she still has the skill Magic Resistance, which would theoretically mean these spears of light would shatter against her body, but decides not to risk it. Besides, her pride wouldn't be able to take it if it didn't work and these inferior opponents drew her blood. All the Fallen Angels get up. She can see their injuries are not healing and they simply have incredibly high pain tolerance. She raises her sword and tells herself she will keep fighting for the sake of Issei, Asia, and her love, Shirou.

Issei and the others duck into an alley and Asia heals the injury on his back. Now that Asia is safe, Issei wants to go back and help the girl who helped them, but Rias refuses. He tries to argue that she might be in danger if more Fallen Angels come, but she says dragons are more than a match for them. He gets confused, pointing out that she looked human. Koneko says she met dragons before, so she knows what they smell like. Issei realizes he barely knows his fellow peerage members and would like to know them better, and hear how Koneko met dragons. Kiba says he heard that exceptional dragons can assume human form, but this is rare. Akeno is still trying to find out how she lost control of her magic circle and where that stranger came from.

Kiba then wonders what she wanted to ask before Issei interrupted her by charging at Asia, and why she said Issei was the answer. Akeno mischievously suggests that the blonde stranger is in love with Issei, then hugs Asia and tells Issei he already has two blondes for his dream. While Asia gets confused, Issei gets embarrassed and tells her to shut up, thinking to himself that a sweet girl like Asia doesn't need to know about his dream of having a harem. Rias then points out Asia is a member of the Church, their enemy, so they cannot shelter her forever. Asia says she was excommunicated and Raynare was the only one who offered her shelter. She then bows to Rias and begs her to let her stay with Issei because he is her first and only friend. Rias steels herself and is about to say no, but Asia puts on Puppy-Dog Eyes. Rias caves in and tells Akeno to fix their clothes. Amused at Rias for giving in to a human, Akeno uses a spell to instantly repair Issei and Asia's clothes.

Rias says they will take Asia to their club room as they need to discuss her circumstances. Issei says they need to go back and help that girl, but Rias says she put them in danger by cutting off their teleportation. Issei argues that escaping without Asia would have been no good, and that girl is the reason why they got out of there in one piece. Rias says they don't know anything about that dragon and it is too dangerous. Asia says the stranger looked really happy when she saved them from Freed, so she must be here to help. Issei then realizes that because of their positions in the room, he and Asia were the only ones to see her smile. Rias then suggests that the dragon might want to take Issei away, and Kiba points out dragons are not known for sharing. Issei then points out ignoring her doesn't sound like a good idea as she might hunt him down later. Rias relents and orders Akeno and Kiba to survey the scene and question her. If she attacks or is deemed untrustworthy, flee at once. The rest of them will go to the club room in their school where Asia will tell them everything about her circumstances and the Fallen Angels. Issei follows Rias and is aware this is the best he's going to get, and hopes the girl is all right.

Artoria continues to beat the Fallen Angels into the ground, but the problem is that no matter how hard she hits and injures them, they won't stay down. They regain consciousness far too quickly and they don't seem to get tired. Having had enough of this, she knocks the blonde to the ground and pins her with a foot before grabbing both of her wings with one hand. She asks them if they can survive without their wings. They laugh and say it won't be fatal and their wings will eventually grow back. Their wings hold most of their power and ordinary weapons cannot damage them. She is glad she still has her Charisma skill as it made her foes give her vital information. She swings her invisible sword and effortlessly severs the blonde's wings from her body. As her blood spills, she gives a blood curdling scream. The other Fallen Angels panic and try to escape while screaming that what she did was impossible, but she easily catches up to them and cuts off all of their wings. They all collapse, their fighting spirit finally broken. The male is shocked and says he suspected it when he saw her weapon is invisible, but now he wants to know how she has an Excalibur. Artoria is shocked, since she made her sword invisible precisely so her enemies cannot identify it as Excalibur. She then notes that he said "an Excalibur", when in her world, Excalibur is one of a kind. Nonetheless, she won't give him any answers.

Raynare curses her. It will take several days for her wings to grow back, and without them, she is too weak to move. If only she had Asia's power, then she would be invincible. Artoria drags Freed back into the room. He wakes up and tries to attack her, but she easily stops him. She orders him to take the Fallen Angels and get out of here. He curses her, but realizing he doesn't stand a chance, obeys. The male Fallen Angel, Dohnaseek, regains consciousness and helps the blonde, Mittelt, limp out of there. Freed roughly picks up Raynare and the blue haired one, Kalawarner. Raynare tells him to bring their wings so they can reattach them. Artoria has no objections, but Freed disrespectfully dumps the two on the ground to retrieve the wings. As Raynare is carried out, she silently swears revenge and to cut off all of her foe's limbs.

As they walk to the house, Kiba isn't sure how to feel. He owes Rias his life and he trusts her judgment, but he has a problem. He isn't sure how a dragon has Excalibur, but he is sure that is the stranger's weapon because Excalibur is one of the only ones that can turn invisible. He hates Excalibur with every fiber of his being ever since that time when he and his childhood friends were forced into an experiment involving it that killed them and almost killed him. If he confirms it is Excalibur, he fears he may lose control of himself. They scout the house and are surprised to find it is not that damaged. They find Artoria alone, kneeling in seiza position. She asks if Asia is safe, surprising them as they thought she was only after Issei. Akeno decides to do the talking and says she is under her master's protection.

Artoria isn't wearing her armor, though Kiba questions if it is really gone or just invisible like her weapon. She asks them to take her to Issei and Asia. Akeno says she has to answer a few questions first, but she says she'll only do that once she sees Issei and Asia with her own eyes. Akeno says this is Gremory territory so Rias must be respected and obeyed, but she says she's never heard of them. Surprised, Kiba thinks to himself that he knew dragons were isolated, but to not even recognize one of the most famous of the Devil families is shocking. Akeno says they mean no insult, but if she doesn't indulge them, they cannot trust her with their master. Artoria swears on her honor as a knight that as long as Issei and Asia are safe, she will not harm any of them. They are again surprised because they have never heard of a dragon calling themselves a knight, yet they trust Koneko's nose. Kiba loses patience and walks right up to Artoria, only to be surprised when he doesn't feel the searing pain of being in the presence of Excalibur's Holy power. He then realizes he was frowning the whole time and relaxes. After this, Artoria relaxes too and asks them to trust her word. Ashamed that he was getting angry over nothing, Kiba tells Akeno that if they cannot trust a knight's word, they cannot trust anybody. As they lead Artoria to their school, Kiba starts regretting not being able to get over his hatred of Holy Swords.
