  • A minesweeper in the War on Terror? While command detonated mines aka IEDs were certainly a major problem, they were much more likely to be encountered by infantrymen or road based convoys. Naval mines of the type that require specialized minesweepers to neutralize, are highly complex munitions that the typical terrorist group would not be able or willing to build. They are much more likely to attack ships with suicide bombers on boats, similar to how the USS Cole was attacked. So, why would the navy need a minesweeper to fight the war on terror?
    • It's an artifact of the play and film that came before. Large chunks of those scripts were kept without alteration despite the setting being updated to the Global War on Terror.
