Fridge / The Twilight Zone (1959) S4E15: "The Incredible World of Horace Ford"

Go To

  • Fridge Brilliance: Also combines with Foreshadowing. Early on, Horace's mother (who was there too, after all, and lived it all from an adult perspective) says she can't understand why Horace looks back on his childhood so fondly. Later on, when she finds out Horace (who supports her as well as Laura) has been fired, she is near-hysterical with terror. It's not just self-pity — her experience of Randolph Street was living in a slum during the Great Depression, and she does not want to go back to that poverty. It's a strong hint of what Horace's childhood and family life must really have been like. (Plus, it may have been the reason Horace didn't invite Hermy and the other guys to his party — it's possible they couldn't afford a very large party with more than a few guests.)
