* DidntThinkThisThrough: The powers of Chaos manipulated them into commiting genocide on two planets and left them half-crazed, so they decided to seek an honorable end by dying in battle against the enemies of the Imperium. By going through the [[NegativeSpaceWedgie Eye of Terror]] to do it, directly into the realm of Chaos. Unsurprisingly it wasn't long before its influence changed their objective from "fighting Chaos" to "fighting ''for'' Chaos".

** Most recently, to keep Chaos from overrunning real space, some Eldar desperately tried to awaken Ynnead, which sort of worked. They then and used the resulting entity's power, along with teaming up with the Adeptus Mechanicus, to resurrect Roboute Guilliman, which worked to great effect.

The Fifteenth Astartes Legion, the instability of the Thousand Sons' gene-seed meant that they were always small in number but were possessed of incredible psychic power, with their [[SorcerousOverlord Primarch Magnus the Red]] being the most psychically gifted of his brothers. Unfortunately, Magnus' desire for knowledge resulted in him defying the Emperor's edict banning the study of sorcery, and a disastrous attempt to warn his father of Horus' treachery resulted in Magnus and his Legions being forced to turn to Chaos for salvation.\\

%%If the Heresy could be blamed on one man, it's this man. High Chaplain of the Word Bearers during the Crusade, Erebus was among the first Astartes to fall to the allure of the Chaos Gods. His corrupting influence would turn his own Primarch to Chaos, and eventually Horus himself. Kicking off the Horus Heresy.

* TheInfested: He is a living hive for the Destroyer Hive, a swarm of demonic disease-carrying insects. Normally, Destroyer flies swarm into hosts and cause them to become bloated with pestilence and burst into a new swarm of insects. When Typhus was infected in this way, he was able to survive by permanently bonding with the creatures.

* CombatSadomasochist: They love inflicting and receiving pain in battle more than victory itself.

* DirtyCoward: The Night Lords deliberately avoid battle with forces that can resist them, preferring to strike helpless civilians whenever possible.

* MakeMeWannaShout:
** Night Lords can emit deafening shrieks to disorient their foes and make them easy prey.
** Several sources have mentions of Night Lords managing to ''kill'' people by screaming. This is through cranking their helm's Vox-units up a notch, inhaling and filling their three lungs and letting loose. Though, this has had the unfortunate side-effect of sometimes temporarily deafening the Night Lord in question.

* TheSadist: Inflicting maximum physical and psychological suffering on their victims is their core motivation.

* StrawNihilist: The Night Lords have come to disdain causes and high minded ideals. To them, the only thing that matters is stealing whatever you can, indulging in the love of torment, and making sure the galaxy learns to fear them once more.
