Brother Zalthis
One of two Ultramarine Neophytes who are dispatched to Obra-Skai as part of the Imperium Exilus' first joint-operation with the New Republic, Zalthis is a cunning warrior with great promise. After the completion of the operation, he and his fellow Neophyte Solidan are elevated to full Astartes and continue to be key operators in the Yuuzhan Vong War.- Eager Rookie: As a Neophyte and then newly promoted Battle-Brother, Zalthis is eager to prove his worth as an Ultramarine. His experiences combatting the Yuuzhan Vong help to temper these tendencies.
- The Leader: Between him and Solidan, Zalthis' cool-headed and tactical approach to things, as well as his openness to improvisation and social interaction, leads to him taking the lead in most combat situations. This is seen further at Fondor, where he and Solidan assume command of a unit of Conscripts, and Zal proves a capable commander who makes efficient use of the resources and manpower available to him.
- Prejudice Aesop: Fighting alongside the aliens of the Star Wars galaxy, especially the Hurglik Sh'mu who dies protecting them leads to Zalthis realizing that some Xenos are capable of honor and bravery, and begins to re-evaluate his perspective somewhat.
