TEG 2 Chapter 12: The Prayer Warriors, Undercover Again

Written By: Ebony
POV: Third person.

In a surprisingly humble author's note, Ebony says she doesn't know whether anyone's still reading this, and says that it's starting to get good again (which isn't saying much). She apologizes to Thomas and says that the last few chapters were "anti-climactic" (not the word I would have used, but this sentiment's a step in the right direction.

Jason parks the van outside a shopping mall outside the city, since most of the city looks like an old World War II movie, in Ebony's words, having been reduced to rubble. While Jason, Thalia and Draco go ahead, Ebony stays behind to guard the van, because the author feels awkward writing about her and doesn't want to turn her into a Mary Sue.

Thalia says she remembers coming to Boston before her mortal father rejected her, since the man was filming a movie; I haven't heard of her mortal father but it's said she ran away from home. Jason and Draco agree, with the former wishing he could have seen the city in its prime, and the latter lamenting that he never saw it due to being British. Ebony, in a moment of self-awareness Thomas has never showed, admits that he's out of character but says there's nothing she can do about it.

Thalia decides to get the group on task, and they head to the Prayer Warrior base, arriving within an hour. The commander, Dexter, is expecting them and informs them that the demons came a month ago. Despite having few supporters at first, they formed an alliance with some radicals and "bombed the hell out of" anyone who opposed them, leading to a war with the rest of Boston.

Thalia agrees to help, which Dexter appreciates, and Jason asks what they can do. Dexter gives them an espionage job, which Thalia accepts. Dexter introduces the group to Kelvin and Dexter Jr.; while Draco stays behind to guard the base (which is a bit odd, since he should be the best at hiding his being a Christian to fit in, as he did at Hogwarts), while Thalia and Jason, followed by Kelvin, go on ahead. Thalia complains about Word auto-correcting "Thelia" to Thelma, forgetting that her name is spelled "Thalia".

The group of three reaches the enemy base, where one of the demons speaks to their supporters. The speech is standard Evil Gloating that they are in charge now and their enemies will be unable to stop them, but the demon suddenly says that the enemy is close.

Thalia and Kelvin aren't affected by this, but Jason realizes the demon's talking to him, and believes that he won't find his identity while part of the prayer warriors. Jason's lost "in a blur" as Thalia reports in, then tells her that he's "going back to the enemy," which Thalia takes surprisingly well, asking to go with him. Jason, however, lies, surprisingly enough, he thinks that Thalia can handle herself (in stark contrast to earlier, when he left her behind while he killed Socrates, which seems to be yet another difference between Thomas and Ebony). Kelvin follows Jason, with Jason unaware that he's following and Kelvin unaware that he's walking into grave danger.

Next Installment: The Prayer Warriors pick up a new friend on the road and meet up with an old ally... Wait, didn't we do this before?
