The Illusive Man contacts Fail Shep to let him know that the Collectors are attacking the colony of Horizon, where Kaidan is stationed. Fortunately, Mordin has managed to find out how to counteract the seeker swarms in the five or so minutes he has been on the ship. Unfortunately, we are treated to a cutscene of Kaidan getting his ass kicked by the swarms. This cutscene is one of many instances of characters forgetting that they are biotics. This one is especially jarring since it is later established that biotics are effective at keeping the swarms away.
Fail Shep and co. fight through an army of Collectors and husks. Throughout the mission (and all future missions with the Collectors), Harbinger, the leader of the Collectors and Fountain of Memes, ASSUMES DIRECT CONTROL over his minions, giving them massive boosts to power.
Fail Shep finds a mechanic who tells him about some AA towers that Kaidan was trying to set up. Fail Shep fights off waves of Collectors while EDI fixes the AA towers and uses them to drive off the Collector Ship.
Fail Shep gets chewed out by the mechanic, but Kaidan scares him off. Unfortunately, Kaidan has gained a personality this game and it involves a good dose of paranoia. Kaidan is convinced that Cerberus is working with the Collectors and that Shep is being used as a pawn. The two of them have a heated argument and Kaidan refuses to join the crew.
Back on the Normandy, the Illusive Man gives Fail Shep three more dossiers.
