Fail Shep reaches the laboratory, Peak 15, only to find that it is now infested with bugs called rachni. The rachni were hunted to extinction by the krogan 2,000 years ago, but Saren's scientists have revived them to create an army. Amusingly, Fail Shep never talks to anyone who explains this in this game.
Eventually, Fail Shep finds survivors, led by Captain Ventralis. Ventralis requests Shepard's help fighting rachni, but Shepard ignores him and breaks into a restricted area, making Ventralis and all of his guards go hostile. After killing the guards, Fail Shep finds Benezia.
After a ridiculously glitchy boss fight, Benezia reveals that she is being "indoctrinated" by Saren's flagship, Sovereign. She gives Fail Shep the coordinates for something called the Mu Relay and then succumbs to Saren's indoctrination. Fail Shep kills Benezia and proceeds to kill the Rachni Queen, rendering the rachni extinct once more. There are still rachni in the labs, and Fail Shep has the means to kill them all, but he decides that he's sick of bugs and leaves Noveria. Peak 15 is nuked by the powers that be on Noveria, presumably killing the scientists remaining there.
Back on the Normandy, Fail Shep's squadmates practically break the fourth wall to advise him to go after Liara next. Fail Shep ignores them.
