Introduction to a New Dawn

Copy/Pasted from the Draft Topic, which you can find in the draft topic in the Video Games forum. I would link, but I've been notified that this is frowned upon.

This topic is for a draft competition of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. There will be five players in the draft: Myself, Balmung, montagohalcyon, Alfric, asterism. As noted in the title, there will be free discussion about the game and the various chapter maps. If you do not wish to be spoiled, please turn back now!

The rules: We will be playing on Easy Mode, with no transfer bonuses allowed. However, all players will be assumed to be playing on Clear Data, which allows for minor changes to the story and a couple of additional characters. There are 73 characters in Radiant Dawn. Ike, Sothe, and Micaiah are free for all players to use freely in all chapters, and do not have to be drafted. The two characters The Black Knight and Lehran are drafted as a pair. There will be 14 rounds of drafting. As there are 69 characters to draft, the last two people (myself and montago) will both get the same final unit. As always, drafting will be done in corkscrew fashion. The drafting order will be randomly selected to start out, then will proceed in the following fashion: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and then repeating six more times.

I have drafted the following units:

  1. Jill (Joins after 1-5)
  2. Ilyana (Joins at the start of 1-3)
  3. Haar (Joins in 2-P)
  4. Mordecai (Joins initially in 2-2)
  5. Oscar (Joins in 3-P)
  6. Kieran (Joins initially in 2-3)
  7. Ulki (Joins in 3-7)
  8. Leanne (First joins in 2-P)
  9. Sigrun (Also joins in 3-11)
  10. Muarim (First appears in 1-7)
  11. Makalov (First joins in 2-2)

Plus, I will have Ike, Sothe, and Micaiah to use in every chapter in which they appear. There are additional rules and free units, which you can read in the draft topic.

I'll have three more units to work with, but since all the early game units have been taken, I'm going to go ahead and play the first handful of chapters now. But first, some initial thoughts:

Outside of Micaiah, I'm going to have no healing capability whatsoever until Ilyana reaches Tier 3, so promoting her to Archsage is a pretty high priority. With that said, I have a lot of defense tanking ability, so that helps somewhat. Also, Ike, Oscar, and Makalov have the ability to heal with their Mastery Skills (Aether and Sol)

My biggest advantage here is that I am loaded with fliers and other high-movement units. Not only will this serve as a huge advantage in the desert chapter, but it will also help on the bridge stage, the handful of swamp stages, and anywhere else with difficult terrain. How well I do is entirely based on how much I can leverage my movement advantage throughout the run. Also, how well I manage the penalties associated with using Haar (who, due to being insanely OP'ed in this run, has penalties associated with his use to mitigate this advantage).

In any case, that's enough rambling on my part. Since Eddie and Leonardo are free for 1-P and 1-1, I'm going to be using Edward as much as possible, so I don't have to eat more than one penalty in 1-2. Once I get Ilyana and Sothe, I should be in good shape, and after I get Jill, things are going to get ugly (for everyone who stands in my way).
