An Actually Interesting Floor

We'll be going with Edge, Yang, Ceodore, Palom and Leonora this time. We then make our way down to B10. It's so red, even the party's sprites are tinted.

We start by heading east to the Godhand. This claw gives a good Attack and Defence boost, and does Holy damage. We then return to the first intersection and head south.

There's a Save Point halfway through this floor that has no scene attached to it. We're hurt pretty badly at this point, so we use it.

The next part of the floor is full of doors. We're most interested in the southeast doors. The west door of the two gives us the Apollo's Harp. This fire elemental harp deals bonus damage to dragons, which is quite handy if we have Edward in our party. We then take the eastern one, where Palom learns Quake on the way to the Red Cap, which resists fire. We want to put this onto Edge for the time being, this is important. This path also has the cutscene Save Point for this floor and another Interdimensional Elevator point.

We skip the cutscene for now, but still rest up, because the moon phase we were on (Attack down, Black Magic up) is not very good for what's next. Behind the Save Point, surrounded by lava, is a Crystal.

Edge: (Here he is... He's finally shown himself!)

Ceodore: The fire surrounding us is raging ever hotter!

Palom: Wow! Can you feel all that magical power!?

Yang: This force before us... I feel overwhelmed by it!

Leonora: Pure fire magic is swirling in front of us!

The Crystal heals us.

Fight this battle with Edge alone?

Oh hell yeah.

Edge: I want to handle this one by myself. Call me reckless. I don't care. This is my battle to fight.

The Crystal shatters, and out comes...

Edge: Rubicante!!!

First step, use a Spider Silk for Slow, Hermes Sandals for Haste and a Light Curtain for Reflect.

Rubicante: Ergh... I... I am Rubicante!

That's what he says when putting his cape up. Next we want to cast Mirage to get Blink up. Now we just beat him up. Now here's the thing: he counters with Firaga. But, when his cloak is up, he can take damage from fire.

Rubicante: Yes... That's right...

He casts Inferno on himself.

Edge: What are you...!?

Rubicante: Heh... So you've found it... Your true strength...

He heals Edge again.

Rubicante: You must stop it... Stop this moon... with all your might!

And with that, he dies.

Edge: (I hate to say it... but you are still out of my league, Rubicante!)

Ceodore: So those were the elemental archfiends...

Palom: I've never seen a foe with such spirit...

Leonora: (I... I hope you can rest in peace for good!)

Yang: (If things had been otherwise... you could have led a far different life.)

We need to solo the fight with Edge to get the reward for this fight, the Fire Scarf. This armour gives a boost to everything but Spirit, absorbs Fire, and is just all around awesome.

Well, let's head back to the Save Point. That night...

Yang: ... Edge, is it?

Edge drops down from the ceiling.

Edge: Heh. Typical Yang. Pondering something?

Yang: We still have yet to find a way to stop this moon's inexorable advance. And what's more...

Edge: Cecil's not showing signs of improvement either.

Yang: No. But I still believe in him. I know he will find himself again!

Edge: Yeah. I'm sure everyone here would agree with that.

Yang: Indeed. And speaking of Cecil... Ceodore has grown to be a fine young man, hasn't he?

Edge: Yep. Your daughter's nothing to sniff at either.

Yang: Oh, not just yet. This is still a great deal of training ahead for her.

Edge: Bah. With her leading the way, I'd say Fabul's going to be prosperous for many years to come.

Yang: Perhaps... but now is not the time to worry about Fabul. We must find a way to save the whole world...

Edge: True.

Yang: Edge... what do you intend to do with your own kingdom? You are the lord of Eblan. It would be a disaster if you passed away without an heir...

Edge: Hold it right there. You're starting to sound a little too much like the seneschal for my liking. Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not old enough to be thinking about the pitter-patter of little feet yet.

Um... you're 43, Edge, stop acting like you're the age you were during FFIV.

Yang: You don't think so? No subject could be completely happy with a king who does not think of the future.

Edge: Maybe so...

The two of them learn Oboro Strike. The two fade into the background and alternate slashing through the enemy until they both smash the enemy into the air, doing a lot of damage.

Golbez and Ceodore are coming along next time. Three slots are open. See you next time.

I'm surprised the Sensechel hasn't been throwing women at Edge by now. A 43 year old king without and heir and spare is very risky for the future stability of the kingdom. This is especially true with one who risks his life so readily.
