Running Out of Titles to Express Boredom With

For our next segment, we are bring Golbez, Cid, Luca, Calca and Brina. Well... at least this section is short.

We continue onwards to the Subterrane Passage.

(Music: Within the Giant)

Hey, that music was used on the final floors of the Lunar Subterrane, we must be close! Maybe. Hopefully.

We cannot progress down without beating all the previous boss fights. But we have, so we get to go down to B8. This looks nothing like the Lunar Subterrane any more. Of course, the previous floors were flipped, so it was always a bit off.

This floor is tinted blue, and pools of water are scattered around the floor. We head east, down the stairs to an X-Potion, then head west under the raised floor to the Dragon Mail. It's similar to the Dragon Shield.

Continuing along the path leads to a short indoor segment with a Save Point, then back out to the Crystal.

Cid: Dah! Too afraid to show us where you are?

Luca: Enough... enough buildup! Just come out and fight us!

Calca: ...!!!

Brina: ...!?

Golbez: (You!)

The Crystal breaks, and out comes...

Golbez: The Drowned King, Cagnazzo.

I don't think Cagnazzo has changed at all since FFIV, other than the strength of his powers. He's weak to ice, except when he's preparing Tsunami, during which you need to cast Thunder to break it (The higher levels have too high cast time to be reliable), he counters magic with status effects, and he can retreat into his shell and heal. The main change is probably how much of a dick he is, as he will keep raising the water barrier over and over, which locks down my only Black Mage, Golbez.

A few minutes and several Hi-Potions later...

Cagnazzo: Is this... death? Yes... my sleep was disturbed... Hah... hah... Now... I can sleep again...

Golbez: Sleep in peace... for I, too, may join you in your hell someday.

Cagnazzo: Master Golbez... It is an honor... to meet you again... Words cannot... express...

Goodbye, you pushover.

Cid: I knew it! The archfiend who impersonated our king!

Luca: So... so are all the enemies we've faced before back again, waiting for us?

Calca: ...

Brina: ...

Golbez: (The wind and fire archfiends cannot be far behind...)

Our reward for this fight is two treasures; the Sage's Staff, which can cast Raise for free, and the Sage's Robe, which blocks Silence and resists attacks from enemy mages.

We head back to the Save Point. That night...

...Cid...? Master Cid!

Cid wakes up.

Cid: Wh-wha? Huh? We under attack?

Luca: It's me, Master.

Cid: Oh... oh! Luca! Don't sneak up on me like that!

Luca: I'm impressed you can sleep so soundly in a place like this.

Cid: You kiddin' me!? I have to rest up while I can, y'know! We've got some serious work to do!

Luca: Wise words from your decades of battlefield experience!

Cid: You got that right... Hey! What do you mean, "decades"!?

Luca: Anyway, Master... I was thinking about this enemy we face. Do you think we have what it takes to defeat him? I mean, look at this moon...

Cid: How d'you mean?

Luca: Doesn't it strike you that this moon almost seems like it was created by somebody? It... it's almost like a gigantic craft, of sorts.

Cid: Glad to see you noticed.

Luca: Perhaps Cecil and the others can deal with this foe... but can I? Can either of us, for that matter?

Cid: You need to believe in yourself, Luca. This is your generation's time now.

Luca: Master...

Cid: Your knowledge and skill go way beyond anything I could ever achieve, Luca. You know, Cecil and his lot have been a great aid to us all, but I look at you... and at Ceodore... At your age, you still have infinite potential waiting ahead for you!

Luca: Y-yes, sir!

Calca and Brina walk in.

Luca: Calca! Brina!

Cid: Hmm. Looks like something's on the fritz with 'em.

Luca: True. They could both use some maintenance work.

Cid: Here, lemme take a look!

Luca: W-wait! No! You can't!

Cid: Why not?

Luca: These guys... They're really fragile! You can't hammer away at them like you do the ship's engines!

Cid: Since when did I say you could tell me how to work on machinery? Eh, Luca!?

Luca: Well: I've been doing it for a while now, if you haven't noticed!

Cid: Pah! If you think I'm going to retire to some country cottage with an apprentice like you running around, forget it!

Luca: That's not the issue here! Ugh! Why do you have to be such a stubborn old man sometimes!?

The two start fighting, while Calca and Brina sound a warning siren and drop flat.

Cid: !!!

Luca: Agh!

Cid: We'd better fix this ASAP!

Luca: Yes, sir!

The four of them learn Final Calcabrina. The two dolls turn into two Calcabrinas, which Luca and Cid ride, ramming into the enemies, then the dolls limbs fly off and hit the enemy, causing lots of explosions, while the bodies fly into the middle of the screen and shock all enemies. It does good damage.

Edward, Harley and Golbez are coming along next time, so that's two slots open for suggestion. See you then.

You could use Cid and Luca again since you'll have Edward and Harley

Hmm... I'd rather switch out Cid and Luca (Luca's been in there too long, Cid's just too slow in this game) so unless anyone has any further suggestions, I'll probably go with Kain and Rosa.

And now for shameless plug time! I'm involved in FFWiki Plays Final Fantasy VI, which is, well, a video LP of FFVI involving several members of the Final Fantasy Wiki. First episode can be found here if you're interested.

Cool. I will check that out. I like Kain and Rosa as well for the next two slots.
