Our next stop, the Lair of the Father, is north of where we were before. We better head to the end of the dungeon and look for Bahamut.

We start just north of an Aura Staff, which could be quite useful for us. We head downstairs to B2. There's an Ice Shield near the next set of steps down, which I'd put on if it weren't for the fact we're still using the Mythril Hammer.

Now, thankfully, we don't have to deal with Behemoths down here. This time, we have Count Malboros. That's not an improvement, they hit quite hard. Luckily, immunity to Bad Breath is given if you are immune to any one status ailment inflicted by it, so the Rune Armlet Fusoya has equipped saves us a lot of pain. We also put one on Golbez so we don't have to worry about the attack at all.

There's two more of these bastards on the final floor. These fights are long and quite MP consuming, I run out of MP healing items by the time I'm done.

We approach Bahamut... He's turned to stone.

Fusoya: Bahamut!

Golbez: He's been petrified!

Fusoya: No. He's been chained in another dimension... Both his body and soul.

Golbez: ...

Fusoya: And if Bahamut could be captured...

Golbez: Then the rest of the Eidolons could have been captured as well...!?

Fusoya: We need to hurry to the Crystal Palace. I fear for the Crystals.

Golbez: At once.

Well, let's get outta here. After a quick stop at the Hummingway Abode for some Ethers, we head for the Crystal Palace.

Once we get there, the Crystals have all turned black.

Golbez: The Crystals! The light has left them!

The Mysterious Girl appears in front of us. Huh?

Golbez: You...!

Fusoya: You're still alive!?

Mysterious Girl: You have my gratitude for leading me here.

Golbez: What? No... No...!

Mysterious Girl: Now we have everything we need.

Fusoya: I wouldn't be so sure about that.

Golbez: We still need to settle a few things with you!

She starts by summoning Leviathan. Well, this will be a higher damage affair than the previous fight. Luckily, we've encountered her on a moon phase where Black Magic is down, so while it takes us longer to kill her, damage to us remains low except for when Leviathan pulls out a Tidal Wave.

Eventually, she'll start stealing MP from Leviathan and use the opportunity to cast Meteor. It hurts, but we can deal with it. It takes a long time, as I don't want to spend Ethers on Golbez, so a good 10 minutes is spent hitting her with a hammer, but we eventually get her.

Golbez: Is this girl immortal?

Fusoya: I cannot say, but there is one thing of which I am certain. The Blue Planet's Crystals are in peril.

Golbez: (Cecil!)

Fusoya: I will call for the Lunar Whale.

Golbez: What?

Fusoya: We must attune our Crystals with the Lunar Whale's flight Crystal.

Golbez: How?

Fusoya: By the power of our prayers.

Golbez: Yes, Fusoya!

We start calling for the Lunar Whale, then one of the Crystals shatters. Um... Well...

Shit. That wasn't what we were trying to do.

Golbez: !

Fusoya: What happened!?

Another Mysterious Girl appears in front of us.

Wait, ANOTHER???

Fusoya: !

Golbez: There's more than one of her!

Mysterious Girl: I need none of this any longer. Neither the Crystals, nor you.

Fusoya: What?

She and the corpse of the one we killed disappear. So there's several of those bitches running around and using their Mary Sue powers to defeat protagonists effortlessly. Great.

Fusoya: She's gone! Oh, no! They're after our comrades in stasis!

Golbez: To the moon's core! Now!

Eh, let's go there next time. I don't want to go in there and encounter more stupid plot today. See you then.

And this is what I was alluding to in the previous chapter: while I haven't worked out the timeline in its entirety, where the Mysterious Girl is concerned it's less of an issue. "She" (more like THEY) can be multiple places at once.

Heroic Jay: THEY is the correct pronoun for the Mystery Girl.

Those of you interested in the timeline, a good acquaintance of mine once sorted everything out. While there is a pretty solid timeline, it falls apart when you try to put Yang's and Edward's Tales together.

Spoilers, obviously: http://thelifestream.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7879
