We head to the throne room. Well, he's standing, and Cid seems to be helping him out.
Ceodore: Cid!
Cid: Whoa! Ceodore! You're alive and in one piece! Thank the gods above...!
Ceodore: Mother... where's Mother!?
Edward: I'm sorry, Ceodore.
Cid: Ah, it's not your fault. I should've stayed with her...
Ceodore: What happened to her!?
Edward: She's been taken away, Ceodore. Kain took her.
Hooded Man: What!?
Cid: Wait up. Who's this guy?
Hooded Man: We'll talk later! To the Enterprise! Now!
Kain's airship has already passed Kaipo.
Rosa: Kain... why?
Kain: Heh... Hahahaha! I've reserved a front-row seat for you, Rosa... Now watch as Cecil dies right before your eyes!
Rosa: Kain!
We've also started flying, but we're still only just over the Underground Waterway. How come the player is the only person who can fly these things fast?
Ceodore: This can't be happening... I've heard so many stories about Kain and his brave deeds, and this is who he turns out to be?
Cid: ...
Edward: Don't worry, Ceodore. I doubt he'd ever lay a hand on Rosa. Cecil, on the other hand...
Okay Edward, you've just lost your smartest man on the planet title. "Oh, don't worry, he won't kill your mother, only your father!"
Ceodore: My father!?
Hooded Man: Faster! We need to go faster!
Cid: What in the heck is going on here anyway!?
Kain's made it to Baron.
Kain: Come, Rosa! It's time for the main event! You'll see me walk right up to him... And tear him apart limb from limb!
Rosa: Kain!
We enter the castle.
Kain: Move it! I've got the Crystals... and I've got Rosa, too!
The guards open the way, and we make it to Baron.
Cid: Prepare for touchdown!
Meanwhile, Kain walks inside...
Kain: Heh heh... hahahaha!
The Hooded Man runs off the Enterprise.
Ceodore: I'm going, too!
Cid also joins us, as does Edward, but he's in no condition to fight. Well, before we head inside, let's talk about Cid.
Cid Pollendina
Class: Engineer
Cid is slow, has pretty much nothing in the way of magic, but has good defences and hits like a truck. He has Analyze, a free Libra, and Risk Stike, which has low accuracy, but does high damage when it hits. That's about it.
Cid starts with Strength boosting stuff, but we take it off so he can have some more points of Defence. We then head for the castle. Kain's getting closer to the throne.
Kain: Haaah hah hah! I'm coming for you, Cecil!
We reach the gate.
Soldier: No one may pass...
Hooded Man: Out of the way!
We kill them easily and run inside. Kain's nearly at the throne...
Kain: Finally... I will be released from this hell! Yes, Cecil, I'll be free from you at last!
We catch up to him.
Ceodore: Mother!
Rosa: Ceodore!
Kain: You!
Hooded Man: Found you.
Rosa: Kain!?
Ceodore: Huh!?
Rosa: So... who are you?
Kain: I am Kain. The real Kain. This pathetic fool's back to shame himself in public for one last time, I see!
Hooded Man: That's right.
Kain: Let's settle this once and for all! If that's what it takes...
...to prove who I really am!
The two attack each other.
Ceodore: !
Hooded Man: Stay back, Ceodore!
Kain: That's right! This is my own battle!
Kain's not to hard to fight, even if we are going solo as the Hooded Man. He's kinda slow, actually. However, nothing we do seems to stop him.
Kain: What's the matter!? Isn't this what you wanted all along!? You wanted Cecil dead... ...so you could have Rosa for yourself!
Ceodore: Stop it!
Rosa: Kain!
Rosa's talking to the Hooded Man here. Well, I guess the evil Kain did give it away.
Kain: Rosa!
Hooded Man: Stand back, Rosa!
The game cuts the crap now. Kain is now Kain?, the Hooded Man is now Kain, and he has Jump back. He's also equipped the Dragoon Lance, and is doing a lot of damage to Kain?. We use a Spider Silk to mitigate any problems we may have and start wearing him down.
Kain?: Y-you...!
Kain: I am ready to accept you now.
We flashback to when Kain? was first set loose.
Kain: Y-you...
Kain?: I am... you! I am what you really feel, deep down in your heart!
He leaves.
Kain: W-wait...
Back in the present...
Kain?: Wh-why...? How could you...?
Kain: I've been held back all this time by the past. I thought those days had to buried for good... But that solved little. My past is as much a part of me as any part of my body. The happiness, the sadness... And all the hatred...
Kain?: Stop... no!
Kain: I'm not here to deny your right to exist.
Kain?: Yaaagh!!!
He collapses.
Kain?: I... I...
Kain: Calm down. You're not going to die.
Kain?: Wha... what?
Kain: You are a part of me, too.
Kain?: !
Rosa: ...
Kain?: Ro... sa...
He disappears, leaving behind the three Crystals he stole.
Yes... this is justice...
Kain: That voice!
Please... my sons...
A flash of light, and Kain changes. His purple robes are replaced with light blue armour.
Kain: What the...?
Well now, this is an interesting change. Looks like we have a Dragoon Paladin now.
Ceodore: That outfit...
Edward: It's like... a paladin.
Rosa: Kain!
Cid: You sure kept us waiting, kid... After all this time! You're finally back!
Kain: Yes, I am here before you once again!
Well, let's go over our new party member.
Kain Highwind
Class: Holy Dragoon
Good stats across the board (although Intellect's a bit sub-par, he doesn't need it), Jump, and White Magic. Is there anything else to say?
Rosa's also joined us.
Rosa Joanna... Um... I guess her last name's now Harvey, but I've never seen anything confirming that. Eh, whatever.
Class: White Mage
All you really need to know about Rosa stat-wise is that her Spirit is ridiculous. She has White Magic, Blessing, which restores some HP and MP to everyone, and Aim, which gives bows 100% accuracy.
We equip our Great Bow on Rosa and head to the throne.
Cecil: Welcome back.
The Mysterious Girl's with him.
Cecil: I'm glad to see you all. Ceodore, Rosa, Cid... and most of all, Kain!
Way to ignore Edward, man.
Rosa: Cecil!
Ceodore: Father!
