Porom's Challenge Dungeon

Guess what time it is again? It's Challenge Dungeon time! And this one, while not as aggravating as Edge's Tale, is still pretty bad. First step, as usual, is grind to level 30. The grinding strategy here is to go to Mount Ordeals, and when the Black Mage and White Mage reach level 20 (their cap), have Kain stab them.

What are you looking at me like that for? It's in character, and doubles the amount of EXP Porom and Kain get. And yeah, Kain's still in our party, the games nice enough to not screw us out of our only really good offensive option.

Before we go into this dungeon, we want a good stock of various items we can buy from Mysidia's item shop, as well as a spare Healing Staff and Sage's Surplice.

Challengingway is in Mysidia's pub, so we get to be teleported to this stupid place while the town is under siege. Or not, because we killed all the monsters and they down respawn.

Someone gives us the rules at the entry door. It's a Timed Mission, help as many people as possible and reach the final chest before time runs out. The more people you help, the greater odds of getting one of the good prizes. The time limit is 15 minutes, which with auto-dash and auto-battle is pretty reasonable.

Okay, so who can we find around here? Well, first, there is one White Mage. Talking to her will spawn three spirits, and we have to talk to them to dismiss them. Then there are 3 Black Mages, each one forcing us to fight off a tough battle for them. These guys are okay.

Then come the two annoying NPC types. Young men will ask for 5 Hi-Potions, Phoenix Downs, Gold Needles, Echo Herbs or Tents, or 1 Remedy, Ether, Healing Staff or Sage's Surplice. Screw the Ether guys, we don't have enough Remedies to go around, everyone else will be fine.

Then there are the old men. These guys will ask for Cura or Esuna to be cast on them. Several times. And we can't get White Mage to do it, no, it has to be Porom. Make sure to save her MP for those Esuna guys.

And finally, the chest is guarded by some tricky enemy groups, some of which we wouldn't be able to fight if we didn't have Kain. Screw this dungeon.

So, let's say you help enough people and get the chest in time. What can we get? In addition to the main three, we can get an Aura Staff, a Mystic Veil, a Luminous Robe, a Rapid Ring, and, of course, an Elixir.

There are also some other chests in the challenge dungeon that can reward us with a Power Staff, a Killer Bow and some Ice Arrows in addition to some consumables. We get the Rapid Ring and Power Staff on the first run.

Oh, and did I mention the spawn points and NPC placements are random? Because they are. Screw this dungeon.

Next time, Edward's Tale. I can hardly wait.

A lot of annoyance, ally stabbing and grinding later, and we're done with this Tale.

That ridiculous Spirit is all in the equipment, her base Spirit is 47
