Part 2b: The Cosmic Factor [2369 - Fantastic 4 - Flame On (E) ]

Ok, so I redid the level and caught up with the spot that glitched out. This time, I cleared out the enemies that were in the area, and the game granted me passage. Not too far past the spot proved my suspicions: this game is actually a crossover with Spiderman, and the foe is the Green Goblin!!! I KNEW IT! Sadly, the goblin was an even easier fight than the mooks swarms before. It was just a matter of rushing up to him and activating Johnny's kicks and windmill punches until our punching bag declares that "THIS ISNT OVER!!!"

So with that, Johnny Storm finally found her hot nurse. Apparently she's not just a hot nurse; she's a hot SKI nurse! Kicking ass, and making it in time for his date with a girl from nowhere. That's our Johnny! Too bad he's kinda dead in the comics these days...

This game has a scoring system on the levels. Apparently saving those people was part of the score, along with my time and the points I earn in the level. I'm not sure if the game says I got 1 star or 5. I think it's five though.

Another interesting note, this game has an upgrade system as well. By completing levels, I can upgrade Johnny's powers to make him even stronger. Yknow, I stand corrected. This game isn't like Megaman Zero, it's like Astro Boy: Omega Factor, also on the GBA. That'd have been a better roll than this. Although again, this game is actually decent. It's just not Astro Boy... Anyways. We can choose to upgrade Johnny's Health, His Inferno+Punch, aka his melee attacks, his Supernova+Fireball, aka his ranged attacks, and his flight, which upgrades the number of times he can use his flight boost. Only difference was that Astro Boy had machineguns and sensors to upgrade too, and he gained skill points through the power of FRIENDSHIP (or at least introducing himself to people).

So anywho, torch gets to snowboard down a mountain to save his pride and his wallet from an expensive dinner bet. Control pad to steer, a to jump. You can even do tricks, which somehow make you faster. I'm grateful about the fact that even though you're racing the nurse, you don't get to see her. She'd laugh at how much I fell, and then be shocked that I somehow won despite that. Stiff controls, how I despise you so.

Kiss for the winner? NOPE! Green Goblin snatched her like Princess Peach. Go get her Tiger...ugh. Again, wrong comic book. My bad. This area was a little bit harder, as the Goblin clan had more guns and even brought some turrets to take me out. Eventually we made it to the Green Goblin leader, who wants to take my body to the General to study my cosmicness. Too bad his Wolverine-ish claws were no match for my windmill punches of doom! After that, my lovely nurse informs me that others have been kidnapped. Level Complete! And I get to allocate another ability point. I choose Flight+Charge, which lets me fly for a longer period of time, as well as increasing my charge attacks strength.

We join Johnny at a city talking with some girl. He's boasting to her about how much fiery ass he kicked, and she naturally thinks that he's lying. Before he gets to reach first base, he sees some Skrulls...even though he never called them skrulls until now so I have no clue how he knows who they are. As far as I'm concerned, they'll always be the Green Goblin to me :3 This level appears to be more linear than the mountain. Johnny just busts through some skrulls, on the streets, in the subway station, and right into the face of Dr. Goblin. This scientist skrull declares that I come with him, and proceeds to chuck fluids at me. He's quite the spammer, so my windmill barrage doesn't work as well as before. In fact, the only reason I won was because I barely lost any health before hand. He's beaten, but "He'll be back!"

At the end of the stage, a random announcer comes out and declares that I, Johnny Storm, will be racing in Moto-X. Johnny, with all of his smoldering manliness, says sure, why not.

This minigame has you competing for the high score with tricks. Basically, you hold the A button for speed, and when you reach a jump, you hold one of the control pad buttons to perform a trick. The longer you hold it, the more points you get, and if you land the trick properly, you get a speed boost. This gets you more air on a jump, and thus more time to rack up your trick score. Very easy once you get the hang of it.

The Midboss of the level was this same scientist guy, but the boss of the area was different. He was some gargoyle ish beast that flew off once Johnny said nasty things to him. So Johnny flew off after him. The game has changed up the gameplay a bit, for a sidescrolling shooter style level. Guess what other Beat-Em-Up had flight portions? Yup. This was actually kinda tough, and I was thankful for the Cosmic attacks having a fast recharge time. The boss also managed to kill me, which was kinda depressing. Fortunately, my touhou streaming skills kicked in and I defeated him. Apparently the skrulls are hiding out in some volcano nearby, so it time to jet! The High score list implies that this game only has 5 levels, and I just finished Level 2, so I think I'm going to try and finish this game. Astroboy hack aside, it's decent.
