Chapter 26:
After that failure of a venture, we decided to go towards the royal castle to learn more about the Fire Emblem. We found ourselves marveling at Bern's might when we reached the castle. Eliwood, Hector, Lyn, and I managed to sneak inside, where we saw two children talking. The younger girl was Guinevere, and the older one was her brother, Prince Zephiel. They were soon joined by the King of Bern. The King was pretty nice to Guinevere, but he spoke harshly to the young Prince. The Prince, along with his retainer, Murdock, apparently had a baby fox that he wanted to give to his sister as a gift. The King was not happy about this and blathered on about how the Prince and Queen only wanted to steal the throne. After chasing Zephiel
away from the garden, a lady came into view. She called herself Sonia and claimed that she was part of the Black Fang and had the Fire Emblem. The King was apparently in on whole thing. When they left, the King had the baby fox killed. It seems pretty apparent that the king hates his son and wants nothing good for him. We now knew that our destination was the Black Fang fortress to find the Fire Emblem. As we left, we saw some Wyvern Riders flying after Nils. A tough looking woman led the group, and got ready to take Nils away. The lords took him under their protection, and everyone got ready for the chaos that would ensue.
Pent and Louise came back from their social outing around that time. The two of them didn't have any weapons due to the circumstances, but they did have a Heaven's Seal, which would make a select few reach their true potential. Unfortunately, none of the Lords in the party were able to use it.
Hector: Hector had the very difficult job of babysitting the other nobles.
Eliwood: I told Eliwood to stay close to Hector so as not to be attacked. When the two of them made it the rest of the group, they had a chat
. Apparently on the few days that Eliwood felt well, he actually was a great swordsman. I really hope that he can be more stable with his health, so he can truly defend his country without our help.
Lyn: Lyn was also ordered to stay away from the combatants, but she still managed to be targeted by a couple mages. It was only her speed and Serra's staffs that managed to save her life.
Serra: Serra
managed to get Lyn out of a tight spot with her ever useful Psychic staff.
Kent: Kent
started with Fiora on the eastern side of the small mountains near the start. He fought off the enemies that were in the south east so the center group wouldn't get pincered.
Lucius: Lucius's
magic helped to clear away a few of the enemies that managed to make it to the center.
Dart: Dark seemed to be taking a shine to Hawkeye. The two of them helped keep the western part of the mountain pass safe. During all of this, Dart claimed to hear the sound of the ocean coming from the Ocean Seal
I had given him to hold. When he put his ear to it, it morphed into a helmet that wrapped upon his head. Ever since then, Dart seems to have become much more precise with his Axe swings. Hawkeye thinks that the man will soon even surpass him with his axe skills.
Fiora: Fiora
took out an archer that threatened to attack her early on. From there, she flew over the mountain peaks to a village on the far western side. Near the village was a lone woman
, who apparently had a grudge against the leader of the wyvern pack, Vaida. She then gave us a Hammerne staff, which could fix items and make them like new. I don't know who this woman is, but this should prove to be a GREAT help. After that, he stuck around in the area to fight the Wyvern riders that were coming from the village.
Hawkeye: Hawkeye
started out near the center, and helped keep the road open for the nobles to make it through safely. After everyone united, he crossed the mountain ranges as bait for the large group of wyvern riders near the castle.
Marcus: Marcus protected Merlinus.
Oswin: Oswin protected Merlinus.
Legault: Legault was around to be a backup shield, but he wasn't needed.
Isadora: Isadora met a villager who told us about the horrors of the Light Brand. We already knew this information from our run-in with Lloyd earlier on. She also met someone who apparently had helped me out back when I traveled in Bern a good while back. I apparently "made her happy too"...I don't remember any of this though. I make MANY people happy after all.
Matthew: Matthew was brought it to try to steal a crest from a knight, but Fiora was able to dispatch the man before Matthew could steal it. Ah well, it would have only been extra cash anyways.
Pent: Pent was able to help soak a couple magic attacks with his resistance.
Louise: Louise was a great dodger, and standing by her husband’s side made her even better. She didn't need to put those skills to work very often though.
After awhile, the Wyvern Leader
decided to retreat for whatever reason. Good thing too, because I don't think any of our troops were ready to fight a monster like her. Ninian and Nils told us that the reason she was so strong was because the Spear she fought with was infused with Nergal's Dark magic. We had to get the power to fight Nergal, and fast. Lyn was apparently good at tracking the Bern soldiers
, and she was able to put her Sacaen ancestry to work in finding the Black Fang.
