Chapter 20: Pegasus Knights make for SCARY shields (Dragon's Gate)

Chapter 20:

After the trials of the island, we finally made it to our destination, the Dragon's Gate. Ninian began to act strangely, repeating that she should have never come here. Before we were able to get her away, a man appeared in front of us from nowhere. He was Ephidel, the man that had orchestrated all of the events happening in Lycia so far. After taunting us, he grabbed Ninian and vanished with her into the building ahead. Everyone was really feeling the moment then, and we were in for a tough fight.

Lyn and Eliwood have insisted on joining Hector in the battlefield despite their injuries. I reluctantly agreed, but I forbade either of them from having swords since they were still too hurt (Lyn was especially annoyed by this request).

Matthew opened up the door near me for starters, and found a sniper inside. It was a bit of a shock, but I was able to take him out quickly with Kent. Everyone else split up and made there way north.

Fiora, who took the outdoor path to the west, quickly ran into trouble. I goofed and had her fight Cameron thinking that she was stronger than she actually was. We would have been in trouble, but fortunately, Hector, who took the eastern indoor path, was able to hit Cameron with his Hand Axe of doom.

This became a pattern for poor Fiora, getting in danger and barely making it through thanks to dodging.

As we got closer to Darin, Fiora saw a couple thieves dart by. She and Marcus quickly swung into action and intercepted them. Lyn approached one of them, and he revealed that he actually wasn't Black Fang any longer, and wanted to get out of the group. Lyn asked if he'd be willing to join us instead, and he, Legault, decided to do so. He doesn't want to fight his old comrades directly though, so he'll mostly be helping me with strategies. At least he was willing to part with the items he stole. Unfortunately I didn't think to get him out of the way, and Darin, who saw the conversation, aimed at him. The thief was pretty quick though, so nothing came of it.

And speaking of thieves, Matthew was able to relieve another thief of his Official Thief Guild Member Card, allowing people to make use of the secret shops around the land. This could prove useful, though we didn't have enough time to shop in the shops that were on this island.

Lucius was gathering items from the western wing, and Kent was sent to support him. This left Hector to take down Darin, which, with the help of his Wolf's Beil, he did very easily. The man was blathering about wanting to rule the world, it was clear that he had gone mental at this point.

Before Hector was able to reclaim the throne, something dreadful happened. Raven, who I had sent to guard some stairs to keep people from coming in, was making his way to the throne, but was being chased by mages and a fighter. I had put Fiora in the pathway to protect him, but the mages were still able to hit him from afar, and he was struck down by their Thunder. Lucius and Priscilla were both devastated when I told them after the battle. I later learned from them that Raven was actually Priscilla's brother, and that was why he switched sides back at Castle Caelin. Even though he never really spoke much to anyone besides those two, I felt awful about my poor planning. No matter how good everyone in the army says I've been in directing orders, mistakes like these will always haunt me when the battle is over...

Eliwood and the others quickly hurried into the inner sanctum of the gate. Inside, we finally found our goal, Eliwood's father. Ninian was also inside, and Marquess Pharae told us to take her and get out of there. Eliwood grabbed her, and Hector grabbed Eliwood's dad, but before we got too far, a cloaked man came out of nowhere and blocked our path. This made us lose time, and soon Ephidel came out saying that the time to release the dragons had come. It was then that we finally saw the one that started all of this, Nergal. Eliwood's father, who seemingly had his energy drained from him, collapsed, and Ninian became possessed. Soon, the giant gate in the back opened up, and a giant dragon began to crawl out. Just then, Nils, Ninian's brother came out from the shadows and was able to help Ninian come to her senses. The gate closed back up, seemingly taking Ephidel with it, and we all ran away from that place. Nergal tried to take Ninian and Nils back with him, but the Marquess managed to cut him down. This would prove to be Marquess Pharae's final act, and he soon passed away. Our mission at Valor was complete, even if it didn't end successfully.

Good write-up, too bad about Raven.

Where was Dart during all this?

Ah, I didn't mention him, did I? He went in the interior route and cleared it out.
