Drive My... Chariot?

Now, there's one caveat to this live blog: the lovely Europa Barbarorum audio is replaced with, what else, The Beatles! Why? Because, that's why! I just felt it might be an interesting way to spice up this live blog and make it a bit more than just me conquering stuff. I apologize in advance if you don't like the Beatles.

In the year 272 BC, during spring, we start out with just this. One measly city and two small armies. However, two small armies become one bigger one, plus a bit from the troops stuck up in Baktra. I make sure to set the taxes to Very High in my lone city.

I have a spy, and he goes off and spies on a nearby city that my troops have their greedy, but also lonely, eyes on, Kophen. It's got a pretty meager defense, to be honest. Up north, my diplomat heads up to deal with the Saka Rauka, and deal with them he shall...

With nothing left to do this season, I end the turn. The Eleutheroi move some of their army out of Kophen, and as soon as the next turns starts I see this lovely screen.

Pahlava and the Seleukids aren't getting along, and I say boo hoo to the Seleukies and sever my alliance with them. Why? First, Seleukia tends to have to consolidate their land, meaning they lose a lot of territories and go to war with way too many factions at once. Second, it makes more sense for me, the Baktrian satrap, to start seceding from the empire like this than to stay allied.

This year in history! I really love this little bits of knowledge. They're cool.

My diplomat, Dion Nysaios, concludes dealings with the Saka this turn. It's a surprising success: I get not only a ceasefire, but also trade rights with them. Of course, I still need to keep my borders secure, so I won't stop being wary of them. They're sneaky.

Now, back to that Eleutheroi army. It turns out that it's actually the entire garrison of Kophen (minus their family member) and I move in to engage them. I recruit some mercenary archer-spearmen to increase my odds, and win the fight pretty easily.

With that, I siege the town itself. Next turn I'll be attacking, for reasons that should be blindingly obvious.

In the fall, an interesting event happens. Since I'm far away from both of these groups, which one should I side with? I'll put this up to a vote, for either staying Allies with poor little Pontos or the sandwiched Koinon Hellenon.

Next episode we'll be meeting the cast and crew, my lovely family!
