Hello TV Tropes, this is my first attempt at liveblogging, so here goes. As a long time strategy fan, I've been wanting to expose this excellent 4x series to a wider audience, and this seems like a good way to do it. I was first introduced to the series in 2000, when I found a demo of Space Empires II on a shareware compilation called "Dynamite Games". I never ordered the full version, but I played the heck out of that demo with my brother until the day we decided to check out the website. We discovered that there had already been two sequels released, and after a month of playing the demo to fourth game, we ordered the full version. Space Empires IV proved to be a huge leap forwards, adding things like custom races, a branching technology tree, and almost unlimited modding potential. Another sequel has been released since then, but as with much of the fanbase, I prefer the fourth game, as its far less buggy, and overall a more polished game. I might liveblog the fifth game at some point in the future, depending on how this goes.

For the purposes of this liveblog, I'm going to be playing against one other human player - my brother - and a number of computer-controlled empires. In the next post, I'll be setting up the game, hopefully with screenshots
