Chapter 24: On Safari

  • Fushcia City

Yellow: "Poisonous Ninja Master," eh? Well, the Gym is right here, but I think we should check around town first.

Lumina: Well, alright...

  • Safari Zone Warden's house

Warden: Hif fuff hefifoo! Ha lof ha feef ee hafahi ho. Heef hee fwee!

Yellow: Um, yes? (I think I got "Safari Zone"...)

Warden: Ah, howhee ho hoo! Eef ee hafahi ho!

{Yellow heads for the north end of town.}

"Safari Zone has a zoo in front of the entrance. Out back is the Safari Game for catching Pokemon."

Lumina: ...

Yellow: Well, we don't have to play the game.

Pikachu: (Ah, this is what I've grown to love about you.)

  • Safari Zone Building:

"Slowpoke is very knowledgeable about Pokemon! He even has some fossils of rare, extinct Pokemon!"

Yellow: Huh? I didn't know that...

"We nicknamed the Warden Slowpoke. He and Slowpoke both look vacant!"

Yellow: (Oh, that explains it.)

"Slowpoke came in, but I couldn't understand him. I think he's got a speech problem!"

  • Back outside, the Safari Zone zoo.

Sign: Name: Slowpoke // Friendly and very slow moving.

Sign: Name: Chansey // Catching one is all up to chance.

Sign: Name: Voltorb // The very image of a Poke Ball

Sign: Name: Lapras // A.K.A. the king of the seas.

Yellow: Speaking of which, I should start training Our Lapras at some point...

{Around here is a Pokemart, where Yellow Sells off some excess items: His Pc is getting full. Then again, so is his wallet.}

Sign: Kabuto // A Pokemon that was resurrected from a fossil.

Sign: Name: Kangaskhan // A maternal Pokemon that raises itsyoung in a pouch on it's belly.

  • Safari Game Entrance

Worker: Welcome to the Safari Zone! For just 500 poke, you can catch all the Pokemon you want in the park.Would you like to join the hunt.

Yellow: Yes.

Lumina: Pi?!

Yellow: {Whispered to Lumina} Just to look around. There might be rare items.

  • Safari Zone

{Yellow is only allowed to take 500 steps, so he measures his movements carefully. On the first attempt, he finds a Full Restore, Tm40 Skull Bash, Protein, . Signs point to the existence of a Secret House and a prize for finding it.}

Yellow: What's this sign? "Request Notice Please find the Safari Warden's lost Gold Teeth. They're around here somewhere. Reward offerred! Contact: Warden."

{Sure enough, Yellow finds them lying on the ground a short distance away. As well as Tm 32 Double Team and the Secret House}

Worker: Ah! Finally! You're the first person to reach the Secret House! I was getting worried that no one would win our campaign prize. Congratulations! You have won!

{Yellow gets the Hm 03}

Worker: That's Surf! Pokemon will be able to ferry you across water! It's also very powerful in battle: probably the best Water type move! And, since Hms aren't disposable, you can use it over and over! You're super lucky for winning this fabulous prize!

Yellow: I believe it!

Lumina: I wish I could Surf.

  • Fuchsia City

{Yellow gives the Gold teeth to the Warden.}

Warden: Thanks, kid! No one could understand a word that I said. I couldn't work that way. Let me give you something for your trouble.

{Yellow gets Hm 04}

Warden: Hm 04 teaches Strength! It lets Pokemon move boulders when you're outside of battle. Oh yes, did you find the Secret House?

Yellow: Yeah. Now I have 4 Hms, and didn't need the fifth!

{Yellow returns to the Pokemon Center and teaches Surf to Leviat over Water Gun, Lorte over Bubble, and Lapras.}

Torte: Oh yeah! Now we're playing with power!

Lapras: It's a shame that I could not learn this on my own.

Yellow: I don't know who to teach Strength to, though. I have one Body Slam Tm that's better, but everyone else could do well with Strength.

{Yellow decides to put off the decision for now, turning to other matters.}

Yellow: I have a feeling that you guys need more training before we challenge the next gyms. How about we check out the path up to Lavender?

Route 15:

Jr. Trainer f: Want to play with my Pokemon?

{She uses Lv 29 Bellsprout, Oddish, and Tangela. Flarer takes down her whole team with Ember}

Jr. Trainer f: I was too impatient! I'll go train with weaker people.

Bird Keeper: When I whistle, I can summon bird Pokemon!

{He uses Lv 26 Pidgeotto, Farfetch'd, Doduo, and Pidgey. Flarer grows to level 34}

Bird Keeper: Ow! That's tragic! Maybe I'm not cut out for battles.

Bird Keeper: Hmm? My birds are shivering! You're good, aren't you?

{He uses Lv 28 Dodrio, Doduo, and Doduo.}

Bird Keeper: Just as I thought! Did you know moves like Earthquake don't have any effect on birds?

Jr. Trainer f: Let me try out the Pokemon I just got in a trade!

{She uses Lv 28 Gloom, Oddish, and Oddish. Flarer grows to level 35}

Jr. Trainer: Not good enough! You can't change the nickname of any Pokemon you get in a trade. Only the Original Trainer can.

Beauty: I raise Pokemon because I live alone!

{She uses Lv 29 Bulbasaur and Ivysaur.}

Beauty: I didn't ask for this! I just like going home to be with my Pokemon!

Biker: Fork over all your cash when you lose to me, kid!

{He uses Lv 28 Koffing, Grimer, and Weezing. After Flarer falls in battle with Weezing, Urbeth manages to stall long enough for Yellow to revive him before finishing the fight. Urbeth grows to level 33.}

Biker: That can't be true! I was just joking about the money!

Biker: Hey kid! C'mon! I just got these!

{He uses Lv 25 Koffing, Koffing, Weezing, Koffing, and Grimer. Flarer grows to level 36, after which Urbeth takes over.}

Biker: Why not?

{Suddenly, Flarer glows growing a larger, fiercer appearance, as well as wings. He has evolved into Charizard}

Flarer: Harr! This is it!

Yellow: I knew this would happen soon, Flarer. You've really grown. Hm, hold on just one second. If you're a flying type, it's only right you know a Flying move...

{Yellow uses Hm 02 to teach Flarer Fly over Rage}

Yellow: There! Much more useful!

Flarer: I guess it's nice to be able to use these things to attack, and not just evade.

Yellow: Let's try it out! Okay, to Celadon City!
