* {{Adorkable}}:
** Emily when she meets President Sawyer goes on full fangirly mode and even asks some serious questions about international relationships with other countries in great detail. A telling point- while she ''repeatedly'' insists to her dad that she has a [[Website/YouTube YouTube]] account, not a "blog", she doesn't say ''anything'' when President Sawyer makes the same mistake (though that's also likely because, well, ''he's the President.'')
** Cale as well; in addition to his tendency to stammer when he gets flustered, his first scene involves him arguing with a squirrel.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Was Agent Todd's snickering in John's interview really mockery, or was it a SecretTestOfCharacter to see if John had the proper temperament for a Secret Service agent by keeping his cool?
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Donnie the tour guide, a charismatically {{Adorkable}} guy who gets an awesome BigDamnHeroes moment.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** This is often considered to be a direct competitor with ''Film/OlympusHasFallen'', due to both movies involving a terrorist attack on the White House. This movie also features a plot involving [[spoiler: the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives planning to assassinate the current President in order to start a war with another country.]] Come ''Film/AngelHasFallen'', the third installment of the ''Has Fallen'' trilogy, which also features a black U.S. President being marked as the target of an assassination by [[spoiler: the Vice President]] and his WesternTerrorists, which they want to blame a foreign adversary for and start a war.
** Creator/LanceReddick, who played the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in ''White House Down'', later played the Director of the Secret Service in ''Angel Has Fallen''.
* IronWoobie: Poor Emily has gone through ''a lot,'' though there is the implication that the events of this film have set her on the path to the presidency herself.
* MoralEventHorizon:
** Martin Walker crosses it when he [[spoiler:threatens to [[WouldHurtAChild kill Emily]] if President Sawyer doesn't surrender. Another one is when he plans to destroy the entirety of the Middle East to end the war then and there; killing millions of people, starting ''[[{{Hypocrisy}} another]]'' war, all because his son was killed on faulty orders]].
** Raphelson when he [[spoiler:tries to send an airstrike to the White House to erase all evidence from the terrorist's profiles, knowing fully that he would be killing hundreds of people]].
** Muriel Walker when she [[spoiler:tells her husband to press on when he mentions that he's doing it for their dead son]], despite the fact that [[spoiler:she was against Martin's plans earlier and has been given literally no reason as to how this is supposed to honor their dead son. One can only hope Carol was serious about her threat to have the woman jailed]].
* {{Narm}}:
** The main villain's wife going from against his actions to fully supporting them quickly and with very little reason to do so, if any.
** The President of the United States kicking a terrorist in the face, yelling "Hands off my Jordans!" is some pretty narmy ProductPlacement.
* NarmCharm: The lines "You'll go to jail for that!" and "I choose the pen!" for sounding cheesy but delivered with intense conviction. There are some who still think they are fun and badass despite being cheesy.
* SpecialEffectFailure: There's times when you can tell that they really weren't filming at the White House and instead with a mockup or CGI replacement.
* SpiritualAdaptation: Along with its competitor, ''Film/OlympusHasFallen'', it's considered to be better ''Franchise/DieHard'' movies than ''Film/AGoodDayToDieHard''.
