* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: "Float On", "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine", "Shit Luck" (really, ''The Lonesome Crowded West'' is one big CMOA), all of ''The Moon & Antarctica'', and "Dramamine", just to name a few.
* BrokenBase:
** Between the fans of their older stuff (''The Lonesome Crowded West'', ''The Moon & Antarctica''), and the fans of their newer stuff (''Good News'', ''We Were Dead''), although they have possibly the best overlap of any "underground that went poppy" band out there.
** Their 2015 comeback album ''Strangers to Ourselves'' seems to have become a minor one. It's gotten generally positive reviews, but fans are somewhat divided on exactly ''how'' good it is. Some see it as a triumphant return, others simply see it as a solid, if fairly standard, Modest Mouse album.
** Lupe Fiasco's heavy sampling of "Float On" for his song "The Show Goes On" has received very mixed reactions from the Modest Mouse fandom.
* CriticalDissonance: ''Good News'' is regarded better by fans than it is by critics, though it's still fairly well regarded by critics.
* HarsherInHindsight: The line "I broke every bone in my goddamn jaw" from Might is pretty amusing seeing as Isaac Brock did just that three years after writing the song.
* SignatureSong: A few key ones:
** "Float On," in large part thanks to ''VideoGame/GuitarHero''; however, the band rarely plays "Float On" live, for the [[BlackSheepHit same]] [[CreatorBacklash reasons]] that Music/{{Radiohead}} stopped playing "Creep."
** For longtime fans, "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine", "Doin' the Cockroach", "Cowboy Dan", "Truckers Atlas", "3rd Planet", "Gravity Rides Everything", "Dark Center Of The Universe", "The Stars Are Projectors", "Custom Concern", "Interstate 8", "Talking Shit About a Pretty Sunset", "Edit the Sad Parts", "Dashboard", "Ocean Breathes Salty", and "Dramamine" are the biggest contenders.
* {{Tearjerker}}: "Little Motel" is rather poignant.
