* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: In the drama, the Capsule song "Flash Back" starts up every time Akiyama ends up turning the tables. The movie covering the finals of the tournament may get another one with its theme song, "Love or Lies."
* AudienceAlienatingEnding: Fans have difficulty telling ''when'' [[CreatorBacklash the creator just wanted the series to end]], but few question that at some point he checked out. The result was a lackluster final game that [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot appeared to be setting up a far better conclusion]] with [[spoiler:the players fixing the game to never end, effectively turning it into the players vs the Liar Game itself]], but then the manga suddenly and abruptly ended. The final chapter consisted mainly of [[FanDislikedExplanation a plain-language explanation for everything in the series]], including [[AssPull concepts never seen in the series at any point]], and [[spoiler:abruptly reveals the BigBad and his organization to be GoodAllAlong and the whole game a FalseCrucible, despite this completely contradicting their prior behavior and cheapening all the tension of the prior chapters since nothing was actually at stake. Then the organizers [[AntiClimax let everyone leave and go home]]. And on top of that, the chapter ends with the GovernmentConspiracy the villains were trying to stop easily squashing their attempt to do so, [[ShaggyDogStory eliminating what little meaning there was left in the story]]]].
* BrokenBase: The ending. Some readers think that it added an interesting dimension of [[GoodAllAlong humanity]] and [[WellIntentionedExtremist ideological complexity]] to the people behind the Liar Game, and are hoping for a sequel [[spoiler: where Akiyama and Nao work to take down the {{Greater Scope Villain}}s]]. Others think that [[spoiler:resorting to a GovernmentConspiracy as the reason behind the creation of the Liar Game]] was lazy and cliche, that [[spoiler:making the Liar Game a FalseCrucible [[ShaggyDogStory completely destroys any sense of tension]] and is outright contradictory with how many of the dealers were acting]], that [[spoiler:the people running the game were ''way'' too EasilyForgiven]], that [[spoiler:having that same conspiracy immediately censor the game footage worldwide]] made everything [[ShootTheShaggyDog even more pointless]] (or a very hastily-done SequelHook), and overall that the ending was far too [[GainaxEnding utterly nonsensical]] and ruins an otherwise great series.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Fukunaga.
* FandomRivalry: The series is often compared with ''Manga/DeathNote'' because both revolve around a psychological and/or intellectual cat-and-mouse between the hero and the villain. Those who prefer ''Liar Game'' tend to favour its more grounded premise (lacking Supernatural shortcuts to one-up the other party), the less gray morality, and clearly defined story arcs (i.e. rounds). Those who prefer ''Death Note'' favour it for its interesting and more fleshed-out characters.
* {{Moe}}: Nao can be a far more subtler example of this as the series continues, particularly during the Second Revival Round.
* {{Narm}}: Yokoya screaming in agony at the Season 1 finale of the J-Drama. The many over-the-top facial expressions in the manga are rather hard to take seriously as well.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Raise your hand if you found Nao annoying before the Contraband Game. Then raise your leg if CharacterDevelopment made you respect her. And sorry, we don't have analgesics for you.
** Anyone who thinks Fukunaga is annoying and find her defeat in Bid Poker [[TakeThatScrappy is refreshing,]] put your hands on vertical bar. [[spoiler:Anyone who found out [[HeroicSacrifice the circumstances of her defeat]] and shed ManlyTears, do a human flag to prove your manliness.]]
* TearJerker: [[spoiler:Fukunaga's]] HeroicSacrifice.
* TheWoobie: [[spoiler: Abe. Beaten by her stepfather and told right to her face by her own mother that she shouldn't have been born.]]
