1	* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Episode One had the Doctor and Jo see their future selves whilst working on the TARDIS console. This moment is never mentioned again in the story. It was meant to be resolved as a BrickJoke in the original final scene, but the Director refused to shoot anything further than the destruction of the House, thinking that was a satisfactory conclusion.
2	* BrokenBase: The Doctor [[BatmanGrabsAGun shoots two Ogrons]] in this serial, which remains somewhat controversial. (Contrary to belief in some quarters, though, only the second instance was added by the Special Edition, not both.)
3	* HarsherInHindsight: For the Doctor, at least: the description of the end of the alternate 21st Century given by the Controller matches nearly perfectly with the fate of Gallifrey in the 2005 series.
4	* HilariousInHindsight:
5	** At the time the story was mocked for only having three Daleks and failing to make them seem like the army they were intended to be. By the time of the revival though, even one Dalek had been upgraded to a planetary threat.
6	** The Orgons bear a strong resemblance to [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings Uruk-Hai]].
7	* SpecialEffectsFailure: The story suffers from the fact that it was the first story to bring the Daleks back after their planned [[KilledOffForReal extinction]] in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS4E9TheEvilOfTheDaleks "The Evil of the Daleks"]] five years earlier. Due to this, Creator/TheBBC only had three Dalek props available to represent a huge invading army, only two of which were "soldiers" that could be used for the attack scene, and neither of which could run convincingly on the hilly grass lawns. Also, none of the experienced Dalek voice actors or suit operators could return. While second string 60s Dalek operators John Scott Martin and Murphy Grumbar were available (and would go on to be the principal Daleks for the rest of the Third Doctor's era in Grumbar's case and the rest of the show's original run in Martin's), TheOtherDarrin Dalek voices chosen gave very wobbly and wimpy performances (without even the ring modulation effect). Also, the many screens in the story were filled with even more {{CSO}} errors than usual. Both Creator/JonPertwee and Creator/KatyManning expressed extreme disappointment with the serial because of this. The special edition DVD version removes and fixes some of the more extreme failures, upgrades the special effects (real extermination effects instead of negatives and party streamers out the gunsticks, fixed CSO) and redubs the timid and faltering Dalek voices with very strong revival series Dalek voice Creator/NicholasBriggs. As for the invasion scene, it gets a wonderful retake treatment to feature many more Daleks and hides the fact it was filmed 30 some odd years later quite well.
8	* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: This was the Daleks' comeback to the series after a five year absence and it's pretty obvious that they were added to the script as an afterthought due to the planned season finale "Daleks in London" being scrapped. Not only do they not get a proper confrontation scene with the Doctor here, there weren't even enough Dalek props available for a full army, leading to the infamous "three Daleks storming" sequence.
