* BestKnownForTheFanservice: The film was a critical and commercial failure; today, it's remembered only because of the sex scenes.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: When Capa talks with Martinez at Martinez's birthday party, an LAPD helicopter stops to give Martinez a birthday message, with a female officer dancing on the copter's skids with her pants down and [[{{Mooning}} backside exposed]]. This is barely commented on, much less mentioned again.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments:
** [[spoiler: Bill saving Rose from suicide after her HeroicBSOD.]]
** [[spoiler: Despite having physically fought Lt. Martinez for having an affair with his wife, who was then murdered by an unknown assailant along with their infant daughter, Buck later forgave Martinez for the affair and the two have put things behind them.]] It's especially notable as it's one of the few serious moments in the film done quite well.
* FairForItsDay: The treatment of Richie's gender dysphoria is surprisingly progressive for 1994, as everyone around her has no problem with the fact that she wants gender reassignment surgery. [[spoiler:Though the twist that Richie is in fact a cisgender woman passing herself off as a pre-op transwoman might change that.]]
* {{Narm}}:
** Hoo boy, where to start? How about Dominic Frontiere's TV movie-esque score? Or several therapy group members ''aggressively'' ChewingTheScenery? Or [[spoiler: Dr. Bob Moore's murder]] being so over-the-top it's better suited for a {{Giallo}} film like ''Film/DeepRed''?
** Michelle ''fellating a gun'' in the opening credits sets the tone for this movie right off the bat. Ironically, this was cut from the original theatrical release.
* NightmareFuel: Yes, the movie does have a bit of a scary moment, at least in the director's cut. Bill is driving along and gets a call from the killer, who taunts him by saying "I'm in the red car"...while Bill is unable to see the color red. Imagine that someone is trying to kill you, you ''know'' they're nearby, but you can't see them.
* SoBadItsGood: Due to above mentioned unintentional comedy, along with how lurid the thing is. [[Usefulnotes/GoldenRaspberryAward Razzie]] founder John Wilson (whose award even chose this movie as the Worst Picture of 1994) would include ''Color of Night'' in his book of such movies, describing it as "hopelessly hilarious" given the movie is "Solidly convinced of its own cleverness—and baldfacedly displaying its own ineptitude at almost every turn".
