1	* AmericansHateTingle: Needless to say, he wasn't as popular in the United States as he was in Japan. It could be said that Americans saw Sapp not only as a big joke to the sport, but also as a mix of the worst things from both countries.
2	* BadassDecay: One of the worst cases ever, given that he went from giving trouble to the best fighters in the world to tapping out in one minute against regional cans. Partially intentional; Sapp enforced his change from fighter to jobber when he saw that his fame started to falter and that his fighting career would be increasingly tougher once the world discovered how to beat a one-dimensional strongman like him. This further propelled his career to the ground, but at least made him obtain some important gains.
3	* BrokenBase: Should he be remembered as an entertainer who gave some impressive performances at his time, or just as a clown who went to tap out after three punches? Most fans point the latter, but there are always people reminding them of the former.
4	* CriticalDissonance: Nobody in the Japanese wrestling magazines believed Sapp could be a good IWGP champion, but he didn't care, because the rest of the the country loved him.
5	* CriticProof: Booking a prime Sapp was always tricky, but it was usually ''immensely'' profitable.
6	* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: No other gaijin wrestler (or professional athlete, for the matter) has ever been so beloved in Japan as Sapp was at his time.
7	* HarsherInHindsight: Creator/MikeTyson's negotiations to fight Sapp became this when K-1 head Kazuyoshi Ishii was busted by the Tokyo tax bureau and the Tyson contract was speculated to have been just a medium to divert money all along.
8	* NarmCharm: His most fabulous performances and entrances tend to evoke some feeling of wonder in the viewer, for good or bad.
9	* NeverLiveItDown:
10	** Sapp is so widely disliked by his late tomato can career that some are surprised to find out he used to be an unambiguously powerful fighter back when he really tried.
11	** The sketchy referee stoppage in his rematch against Hoost has driven some people to basically rewrite the match and claim Sapp got literally nothing on Hoost until that point, despite Sapp had already knocked down Hoost in the same round and was whaling on him in the same exact position he had defeated Ernesto the first time.
12	** Low points of his early career like his injury reaction against Cro Cop and his breakdown against Fujita are inevitably mentioned every time Sapp is discussed.
