* EnsembleDarkHorse: Indubitably, the most well remembered and referenced sketch in this film is the ''Bullshit or Not?'' parody starring Henry Silva.
** William Marshall, hamming it up as the Video Pirates' Captain, and doing so with a flair that could have easily been a winning performance in a real pirate movie.
* HarsherInHindsight: "[[DigitalPiracyIsEvil Video Pirates]]" has them celebrate finding a massive haul of Betamax and VHS tapes, while leaving the laserdiscs behind, citing that you couldn't record on them and compatibility issues with their hardware. Years later, Both Betamax and VHS tapes, along with the laserdiscs, were on the way out, replaced by first the [=VideoCD=], then DVD and Blu-Ray, which all got recordable versions and have much higher compatibility and picture quality with each new iteration.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Don "No Soul" Simmons was basically the blueprint for [[Series/TheFreshPrinceOfBelAir Carlton Banks]].
** Mixed with ValuesResonance - the Dial-a-Date in the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o04L3ptIkjI Rosanna Arquette and Steve Gutenberg sketch]]. Having that much intimate details about your blind date was outrageous in the 1980's, but when it's common today to run a Google search and get even ''more'' embarrassing dirt on a potential date, it's almost quaint.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Due to the pure number of actors in the film, this is likely to happen for viewers. Probably the best examples are Creator/RobertPicardo, who had been a supporting actor in TV and movies for years before becoming best known as The Doctor (no, [[Series/DoctorWho not that one]]), on ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'', Creator/DavidAlanGrier who later hit stardom on ''Series/InLivingColor'', and Creator/ArsenioHall who later broke out with his talk show and movies with Creator/EddieMurphy.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: Several times over. Admittedly, as a spoof of bad B-Movies from TheFifties, this was intentional.
** ''None'' of the locations on the moon are even slightly overcast, despite the moon being supposed to have very little natural light.
** The Earth when they mistake it for the moon is brightly lit and stands out clearly in the sky.
** When the moon is destroyed, a bit of it can still be seen hanging on a string.
