* CriticalDissonance: Just before the show premiered on PBS, some critics gave it bad reviews dismissing it as William Bennett's attempt to teach kids "incredibly preachy values" and to "outsmart ''WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons'' in prime time ratings", since they consider the fact that he hates public television. However, when the show premiered, it got very good ratings, but then again, some critics still weren't impressed with it.
%%* EnsembleDarkhorse: Soc and Ari enjoy this status among some fans.
* FanonDiscontinuity: Many fans don't like season three due to the changes in the voice cast and the [[NoBudget rather stiff animation.]]
* FirstInstallmentWins: Many fans say season one had better stories and virtues than the last two.
* HilariousInHindsight: Annie tells Zack that "No kid gets paid $15 an hour!". While they are too young to (legally) hold a job, there is a growing movement in the U.S. advocating for the increase of the federal minimum wage to $15 and several cities and states have passed legislation to gradually raise the minimum wage to $15, with Washington D.C. being the first to reach it in July 2020.
* PeripheryDemographic: Despite being targeted at families with children between the ages of two and nine, the series is enjoyed by many preteens, teenagers and young adults, particularly those who grew up with it.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Fox Animation Studios, Creator/TwentiethCenturyFox's feature animation division in Phoenix, Arizona, actually produced the animation for the series (well, the first two seasons), only without Creator/DonBluth being involved at all.
* SeasonalRot: In season three, the cast was replaced, the designs on the humans got uglier, the stories weren't so serious, they reused old virtues, the animation got stiff, and the colors got paler.
* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The animation is very neat and lively even by TV standards. The season three animation...not so much.
* WhatDoYouMeanItsForKids: Some early episodes contain mild violence and murder, which is pretty graphic for a Creator/PBSKids show. Some also feature stories with [[DownerEnding Downer Endings]], including a scant few that end with the DeathOfAChild.
%%* TheWoobie: The stories have several.
