* {{Adorkable}}: Fumina is a cute girl whose rampant enthusiasm for all things Gundam only makes her more charming. Just watch her sing [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamZZ Anime Ja Nai]] with Sekai in episode 11 if you need convincing.
* AmericansHateTingle: Surprisingly true to the trope, The mecha girl Gunpla (HGBF Super Fumina, Chinagguy, Hyper Gyanko & [[spoiler:Miss Loheng-Rinko]] and their variants) and dozens of Petitgguy variants have caused this have sold well in Japan, but many of the foreign builders still regard those kits as the ''black sheep'' of the Gunpla lines, which the fans believed that Bandai opted making those variants instead of producing ''actual'' kits of their fan favorite non-''Build Fighters'' Mobile Suits and make the hobby look bad to outsiders.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The first opening theme, [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K416quzMCQ0 "Cerulean"]] by BACK-ON, which really sets the tone of the show and accompanies Build Burning Gundam's reveal, [[spoiler:as well as the TiebreakerRound between Sekai and Wilfred in the tournament finals.]]
** Given that Try shares its soundtrack with its parent show, this is to be expected, but the new OST isn't too shabby at all, especially the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpx7uNpRMFk Jigen Haoh theme]] (called, appropriately enough, "[[TranquilFury Clear and Serene]]").
** Special mention goes to the tenth [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0-9gDS7g4c track]] of OST 1, '''"[[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam These Hands of Mine Shine With a Roar]]"''', used in scenes where Sekai is going in for the win. It was most memorably heard in Episode 9, when he has fully assimilated with Build Burning.
** One can be sure that awesome things happen when "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NHQ4Oi1FAE Bell of Requiem]]" starts playing.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvTw2GFDH6s Tryon 3's theme]].
** The hilariously-titled "[[https://youtu.be/TwBymuqX_xY Sorry, everyone; I forgot how many times it was already]]" doesn't say much in its title, but the Guitar solo at the beginning will remind listeners that it's actually another awesome Meijin theme, albeit with the fast Flamenco vibe traded in for a slower, yet more hard-hitting beats, and a surprise [[OminousLatinChanting Ominous]] ''[[GratuitousForeignLanguage Spanish]]'' [[OminousLatinChanting Chanting]] shoehorned in for good measure.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: A downplayed example with Sekai Kamiki. While well liked by fans, some feel he was too similar to [[Anime/GundamBuildFighters Reiji]](A Reiji Clone?) and wish he had gotten a more distinctive look and personality. It doesn't help his design makes him look like Reiji's little brother.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Just like her brother before, Gyanko is pretty popular. It runs in the blood.
** Shimon Izuna, BIG TIME. For his [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments sympathetic motives]], [[CoolBigSis personality]], [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome and absolutely awesome fight with Sekai]], using an unmodified, straight-built Destiny Gundam[[note]]in a tournament full of {{Ace Custom}}s[[/note]]. [[MyRealDaddy Many feel Shimon did the Destiny more justice than]] [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny its own show ever did]], prefer him to [[BaseBreakingCharacter Shinn Asuka]] (the Destiny's original pilot) and hope he makes a reappearance.
*** He is, and perhaps fittingly, seems to be pairing up with Gyanko.
** The series has caused Meijin Kawaguchi III's popularity to promote from a mild BaseBreakingCharacter in [[Anime/GundamBuildFighters the original series]] to this.
** With only just two episodes to her credit, Shia has also earned a following of her own, partly due to being the closest equivalent to [[Anime/GundamBuildFighters Aila]], and partly for her brief interaction with [[spoiler:Sekai]].
** The Tryon 3 pretty much stole the show in episode 16 - people seemed to love seeing a HotBlooded {{Super Robot|Genre}} in a Gundam show. It helps that Tryon 3 is designed by Masami Obari.
*** And then came Episode 22. The fandom EXPLODED with adoration for it after that one.
** The Star Winning Gundam experienced a GIGANTIC surge in popularity after it debuted its Real Mode. The number of people who have declared it their favorite Gunpla in the whole series is ''mind-bogglingly'' high. A lot of fans were disappointed that Fumina went from the heavily-armed Powered GM Cardigan to a [[RealWomenDontWearDresses cute]] support SD Winning Gundam. Surprisingly, this turned into a ''plot point'' in the story as well(she was allowing herself to be overshadowed by Sekai's talent and Yuuma's skill), with the Star Winning's real mode being an indication of Fumina's growth as a fighter and member of Team Try Fighters in her own right.
* FandomRivalry: Surprisingly with franchise stablemate ''Anime/GundamReconguistaInG''. For the first time, two Gundam shows began airing on the very same Anime season[[labelnote:Clarification]]''Reconguista'' aired its pilot episode a full week before ''Try''.[[/labelnote]], so naturally there are arguments over which is better.
** What also doesn't help is the perception that since both shows are running at the same time, that means resources are being split between them. They even have the same voice actor for both their respective [[RecurringElement Char Clones]][[labelnote:*]]For clarification, Takuya Satou (the seiyuu for Tatsuya Yuuki/Meijin Kawaguchi III in the prequel) not only returned to ''Try'' for the same role, but he also landed the role of ''Reconguista's'' Luin "Mask" Lee, that show's equivalent. That means if either series suffers a drop in quality, fans of one series will immediately blame the other for "stealing" it from them.[[/labelnote]]
* FanNickname:
** Fans have begun to call Plamodel Club President Daiki Miyaga as "Evil Obright", given his character design and voice actor.
** The Gundam in Yuuma's flashback in episode 2 has gotten nicknames such as "Gundam Edgelord" from its look and "Gundam Clusterfuck" from using parts from 5 different machines.
** Team Angelfish, Chusui Middle School's Swimming Club will forever be known as Team [[Anime/{{Free}} FREE!]]
*** Which quickly translates to Team FREE(ZE) after their battle with Team Try Fighters ends in an anticlimactic fashion, as the field selected was Tundra, and the ice was too thick for their marine MS to punch through.
** Meanwhile, Gabal Institute's Team White Wolf got the nickname "Team Zaku", obviously due to [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin their Gunpla lineup.]]
** Due to the multitudes of [[FanPreferredCouple potential pairings]] within the span of eight episodes ''and counting'', which is even considered at par with the Gunpla Battles in terms of quantity, the show is slowly getting the nickname "Gundam Shipping Fighters". And speaking of Ships...
** Not!Aila or Aila 2.0 for Shia Kijima, the white-haired character seen in episode 12 who shares [[Anime/GundamBuildFighters Aila]]'s white hair and cold looks.
*** In relation, her G-Portent garnered the nicknames "G-Potato" and "G-UsefulNotes/{{Pettanko}}", the former for sounding similar to its name, the latter possibly in connection to Shia's proportions.
** Junya's Denial Gundam has been called the Dark Burning Gundam due to having more than a few similarities to Sekai's Try Burning Gundam.
*** Some have also called it the "{{Chuunibyou}} Gundam" due to it's "edgy" sounding name supposedly something that a person exhibiting the syndrome would pick.
* FanPreferredCouple: Though there are multiple ships (as described below), the most popular at this point are between the three main characters, i.e. Sekai/Fumina or Yuuma/Fumina. One can argue that most of the Ship Battles are based around those two.
** Despite being Sekai's elder sister and the series appearing to pair up Mirai with Yuuma, that doesn't stop fanartists from going the ''incest'' route. [[UnwantedHarem And sometimes throwing Fumina and/or Kaoruko into the mix as well.]]
* {{Fridge|Horror}} {{Squick}}: During the battle in Episode 25, Minato mentions that the Super Fumina model "casts off" when it takes damage; if you're not familiar with the term, it refers to figures or statues with removable clothing. Which means that not only did Minato make a model of a real person without her permission, he made a model of that person ''in her underwear '''or less'''''. The model kit release tries to mitigate this by saying that since it's never actually seen losing armor, Minato might have been bluffing.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Creator/YoshimasaHosoya has been known as a gun shooter outside of his voice acting. Cue his role as Adou Saga, whose Gunpla has a revolver as one of its ranged weapons.
** The jokes about just how badly Nils wanted to be Japanese are now funnier after it was revealed that he took Yajima as his surname when he married Caroline.
** The jokes about how Creator/TomokazuSugita wants to be casted as a pilot in a Gundam series went hilarious when he voiced Kei Karima in Try, who operated the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Cherudim Gundam]]. However, this comes at the expense of being the ButtMonkey of the show.
** Watching Episode 3, particularly the part where Daiki and Eri were all lovey-dovey, and were actually thinking of an MS Girl as an upcoming project for the Plamo Club, made the reveal [[spoiler:of the Super Fumina]] in the final episode all the more hilarious.
** Episode 25 has a scene where Meijin [[Memes/{{Gundam}} done goufed]] with announcing the winner of the Meijin Cup, awarding it to Yuuma instead of Minato. Cue Steve Harvey and his slip-up during the 2015 Miss Universe coronation.
** Yuuma's preference for transforming models became this when Yuuma Uchida (his seiyuu) went on to voice Hayate Immelmann of ''Anime/MacrossDelta'', Gundam's greatest rival in the TransformingMecha department.
** The HGUC Barzam was teased in the show itself, coming just after a Zeta Gundam reference. Flash forward to 2017 and Zeta's anniversary -- check out the actual HGUC Barzam box art. Look familiar?
** Speaking of future HG releases, Shimon's "Team Snapfit" included a HG Jet Windam, which didn't exist at the time - not only is it confirmed for a 2020 release, it's based on the new "Fine Build" system, with a deliberately simplified structure similar to the HG Leo and ''Toys/ThirtyMinutesMissions'', meant to cater to the "snapfit" crowd.
** Gyanko's wingmen get new mechs in ''Island Wars'' that immediately drew negative attention for being obvious shilling of the new HG Revive [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeedDestiny Force Impulse Gundam]], which you'd have to get two of ''and then repaint'' to replicate. Fast forward to ''Anime/GundamBuildDivers'', and ''two recolored Impulse Gundams'' join the lineup in the last quarter (driven by a main character's wingmen to boot!)
** Tateo's Gyan (Gyanko's younger brother) winning the Meijin Junior Cup over Mamoru's Destiny Impulse (Shimon's younger brother) and having a rivalry is a much lighter and friendlier version of ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDFreedom''. In ''Freedom'', GYAN Strom pilot Agnes was considered the better student to the Impulse and Destiny pilot Shinn but unlike Tateo being simply over-confident but still a good sport, Agnes is pure arrogance where she looks down on Shinn and takes all opportunities to belittle him.
* HoYay:
** Judging by their dynamic in Episode 3, Sekai/Yuuma. Although, it could be argued that it's leaning more towards VitriolicBestBuds. They bicker like brothers more than anything else.
** Sakai is somewhat obsessed with his rivalry with Yuuma. Taken up to eleven in Episode 22 [[spoiler: with craploads of hot blood reminiscent of battle scenes from ''any'' {{Super Robot|Genre}} anime]].
*** In his DreamSequence in Episode 8, there are many beauties from multiple Gundam shows... including [[Anime/TurnAGundam Loran]] [[WholesomeCrossdresser in drag]].
*** In Episode 22, Sakai corners Yuuma and proceeds to corner him by slamming his hand into the wall. The implication of this isn't lost on Fumina who calls the trope out while sporting a slight blush upon seeing this.
** Sekai and Wilfrid declaring each other as rivals during the conclusion of their battle in episode 14 has shades of this.
** Episode 20 adds in [[spoiler:Akira and Junya]] in the mix, considering their amusing dynamic in the [[AgainstTheSettingSun road trip scene]] getting PlayedForLaughs.
** Female example: Thanks to Shia's statement to Fumina[[labelnote:Quote]]"With you, I think I can have a great battle..."[[/labelnote]] in Episode 18, fans see their dynamic as akin to that of the aforementioned Sekai/Wilfrid crack pairing.
*** Fumina recalling how Lady Kawaguchi inspired her to strive for becoming a Gunpla champion makes it look like she has a crush on her. For her part, in Episode 23 Lady calls Fumina a "saucy girl" and that she likes her moxie.
* IKnewIt: Fan's predicted the reappearence of Lucas well before he showed up.
** [[spoiler: The silhouette of Sekai's master in the first opening looking like Domon Kasshu was no coincidence]].
%%* ItsPopularNowItSucks: The Petitgguy variants, what do you expect?
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Given he's canonically a love interest for several female characters, it's unsurprising that most ships revolve around Sekai.
* MemeticMutation:
** "[[Series/PimpMyRide Yo, dawg! I heard you like Gunpla Battles...]]"[[note]]Thanks to the spectacular debut of the Build Burning Gundam in the pilot episode, fans have started references to Music/{{Xzibit}}'s famous line...[[/note]]
** [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam DOMOn]][[note]]Since the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam DOM]] is built [[{{Pun}} ON]] to the Build Burning Gundam, fans had put two to two together to recreate Domon's name in this way.[[/note]]
** [[CoolBigSis The Age of Onee-san]][[labelnote:Explanation]]Mirai Kamiki, Sekai's CoolBigSis has garnered a lot of attention from people ''on both sides of the fourth wall''. And the fact that supposedly, Tomino once stated in one of his most recent interviews that he did not like the recent trend of cute little sisters in anime/manga and wants to make Cool Big Sisters big again. Coupled with the concurrent running of [[Anime/GundamReconguistaInG Gundam Reconguista In G]], which features another CoolBigSis in Aida Reyhunton, one can't help but to speculate that these shows will usher their resurgence in the Anime scene.[[/labelnote]]
** [[http://www.reddit.com/r/OneTrueMeijin The ''real'' Gundam Jesus]] has arrived! [[labelnote:Explanation]] Toward the end of episode 11, the Amazing Red Warrior descended from a hole in the clouds down toward the battlefield, wrapped in sunlight and with its palms held out. To top it all off, the sunlight from his appearance causes a plant to bloom anew. People quickly drew parallels with a certain religious figure, while some fans have immediately declared Meijin to be this instead of [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEED Kira Yamato]]. Has also caused a bit of a FandomRivalry with fans of ''Literature/TheIrregularAtMagicHighSchool'', as the male lead character shares his first name, AND is a very divisive Marty Stu. The link provided in this entry was made [[http://www.reddit.com/r/OneTrueTatsuya in response to such]].[[/labelnote]]
** Jigged Hash [[labelnote:Explanation]]The Amazon page for the Build Burning Gundam plamo kit states that it reflects the [[TranslationTrainWreck "Jigged Hash Keno style of fighting employed by Esaki Amici"]] [sic][[/labelnote]]
*** To a lesser extent: [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Je]][[Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn gan]] How're You?!
** Junya Has Lost His Way. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The similarity of Junya's haircut to that of [[Anime/KillLaKill Satsuki Kiryuin's]] hair post ImportantHaircut has not gone unnoticed. Combine this with his backstory about leaving the Jigen Haoh school, Sekai trying to reach him though his fists with the already memetic song from ''Anime/KillLaKill'' and you get said meme.[[/labelnote]]
** [[https://youtu.be/fxZeL0YNWGg?t=305 Satan Fumina]] [[note]]The shoddy quality of High Grade Super Fumina along with the other GBF Gunpla girls has led to the kits getting mocked by modelers, earning the nickname "Satan Fumina". It wasn't until the releases from the ''Anime/GundamBuildDivers'' line (beginning with Diver Nami) where Bandai finally paid some effort to improve the kits, then completely ending the curse of shoddy Gunpla girls by way of both the Figure-Rise Standard, and the 30 Minute Sisters lines.[[/note]]
* NarmCharm: As always, the appearance of Meijin Kawaguchi III [[https://twitter.com/kverulantcral/status/555438544253353984 never fails to disappoint]].
-->"It's the radiance of human and machine together as one! '''Then blaze on, Gunpla!'''"
** The fact that he has a DistaffCounterpart who's just as big a hammy chuuni as he is also helps.
* OneSceneWonder: Marika Hoshino, who only shows up in one episode and the Island Wars OVA, was beloved by fans for being an adorably silly ShipperOnDeck like [[Anime/GundamBuildFighters Rinko Iori]] was and lamenting her lack of screentime.
* PanderingToTheBase: The staff asked fans which Mobile Suit they would like to see in the show and made a list of all the suits that they could possibly add in. The winner turned out to be the Xi Gundam of ''[[Literature/MobileSuitGundamHathawaysFlash Hathaway's Flash]]''.
* PortmanteauCoupleName: Thanks to the active ShipToShipCombat brewing on [[http://www.reddit.com/r/Gundam Reddit]], [=HMS SekaFuu=] and [=HMS SeGyanko=], for the Sekai/Fumina and Sekai/Kaouruko pairings, respectively. Later joined by (As of Episode 24) [[spoiler:[=HMS SakaiFuu=]]] (thanks to the episode 8 DreamSequence, no less), [[spoiler:[=HMS SekaShia=]]] and [[spoiler:[=HMS ShiGyanko=]]]
** For the {{Yaoi Fangirl}}s of the show, there's also (as of Episode 23) [[spoiler:[=HMS YuuSakai=]]] and [[spoiler:[=HMS AkiJunya=]]]. As for their LesYay counterparts, there's [[spoiler:[=HMS FuuShia=]]].
* SelfFanservice: Gyanko's not much wider than the other girls, yet most of the fanart of her tends to make her a lot chubbier with very large breasts.
* ShipToShipCombat: There's currently the shipping equivalent of the Wrestling/RoyalRumble among supporters of the following pairings (As of Episode 13): Sekai/Fumina, Yuuma/Fumina, Yuuma/Mirai, [[spoiler:Sekai/Gyanko]] and now [[spoiler:Minato/Fumina]] as well as [[spoiler: Sekai/Shia]]. It's probably safe to say that it ''will'' become a lot more complicated in the next few episodes...
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Unlike his teammates, Sekai doesn't really have a clear arc in the first half of the series, especially when compared to Reiji and Yuuki's rivalry in ''Build Fighters''. He just fights without any real endgame or purpose other than it interesting him.
* ToughActToFollow: As the followup to a very well-received series that together with ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn'' helped to WinBackTheCrowd after ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamAGE'', ''Try'' had a very uphill battle that, while it did okay, was less favorite upon compared to its predecessor.
* VindicatedByHistory: With the release of ''Anime/GundamBuildDivers'', the criticisms towards ''Try'' were slightly reduced to some extent. Some fans argue that ''Try'', while still inferior to ''Build Fighters'', kept many appealing aspects of it that ''Build Divers'' lacked.
